Start by checking where the stream is failing—not by assuming Jio Fiber is at fault. Look at OBS Stats, test the streaming computer over Ethernet, reduce bitrate if OBS reports dropped frames, then check the RTMP address and Owncast server logs. “YouTube” in the title does not establish that YouTube is the destination: Owncast receives a broadcast over RTMP, and OBS’s YouTube examples are comparison tests, not proof of where this stream is going.
Identify which part of the streaming chain is failing
A stream can drop because OBS cannot maintain its connection to the ingest server, the local computer cannot encode reliably, the home network is unstable, or the Owncast host cannot process the incoming video. These symptoms point to different checks. A single speed-test result cannot identify the cause.
- OBS reports dropped frames or disconnects: investigate the connection to the ingest server and whether the configured bitrate is sustainable.
- OBS reports rendering lag: investigate the streaming computer’s CPU or GPU and encoding workload.
- Owncast logs or
transcoder.logshow errors, or host resources are saturated: investigate server processing and FFmpeg. - The broadcast stays connected but only some viewers have trouble: look at Owncast stream-performance observations and those viewers’ network conditions, rather than assuming the broadcaster’s Jio connection is responsible.
- MyJio diagnostics flag a router, Wi-Fi, cable, or speed problem: follow the on-screen guidance and contact Jio if a service-side problem persists.
These are diagnostic clues, not a confirmed explanation for a particular stream. The actual OBS statistics, connection history, Jio diagnostic results, and Owncast logs are needed to attribute the fault.
Run a short, controlled connection test
Check OBS Stats during the failure
Open OBS Stats while streaming and note whether the problem is dropped frames or rendering lag. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the ingest server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Rendering lag points attention toward local rendering or encoding capacity instead.

Test with Ethernet
Connect the streaming computer to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat a short test using the same OBS settings. OBS recommends wired Ethernet because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming.
- If the wired test is stable while Wi-Fi was not, the Wi-Fi connection or another part of the local wireless path may be contributing.
- If the wired test still drops frames, continue checking bitrate, the router and ISP path, the RTMP destination, and the Owncast host.
An Ethernet cable is a diagnostic option; the cited guidance does not require a particular brand, category, or length.

Reduce bitrate and match settings to the connection
Lower the OBS video bitrate and repeat a test. If the stream remains unstable, also try reducing resolution or frame rate. OBS’s guide suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not as a guarantee: stability during the actual broadcast is the deciding observation.
Do not choose settings only from a speed test. Available upload capacity can vary, and the path to the ingest server matters. Change one setting at a time where practical, note the result in OBS Stats, and avoid raising the bitrate again until the stream remains stable.

Verify the Owncast destination and encoder settings
Check the RTMP address, port, path, and key
Owncast accepts RTMP on TCP port 1935 by default. The stream key belongs on the /live/ path. Check the server’s actual configured address and the value entered in OBS; a wrong endpoint, port, path, or key can cause a failed or interrupted connection and is worth ruling out before changing router hardware.
Use compatible encoding and a suitable output load
For the compatibility path documented by Owncast, use H.264 video and AAC audio, with a two-second keyframe interval. Match the stream’s resolution and bitrate to what the Owncast server can handle; sending more than the server can process can create problems even if the home connection is stable.

Owncast’s examples include 720p at 30 fps and 3000 kbps, and 1080p at 30 fps and 4500 kbps. These are examples, not universal requirements or guarantees. The appropriate setting depends on the server’s configured capacity and the stability of the connection.

- Open MyJio.
- Go to Home > JioCare > Run Diagnostics.
- Review the findings and follow the app’s instructions for network health, router status, Wi-Fi strength, device connectivity, speed drops, loose cables, or configuration issues.
If MyJio identifies a problem, address that finding and repeat the OBS test. If it does not, that alone does not rule out every issue on the route between the home connection and the Owncast ingest server.

Inspect the Owncast host if the connection checks out
If Ethernet and a lower bitrate do not resolve the issue, or OBS remains connected while Owncast reports errors, inspect the server side. Owncast’s troubleshooting guidance identifies broadcaster CPU/GPU load, local network conditions, Owncast server resources, and FFmpeg as areas to investigate.
- Review
/admin/logsand the server’stranscoder.logfor errors around the time of the drop. - Check the Owncast host’s CPU, GPU, and other resource use while receiving and processing the stream.
- Confirm that the host is using an appropriate current FFmpeg installation.
- Compare server log timestamps with OBS Stats and the time the symptom occurs; this can help distinguish an ingest connection issue from a server processing issue.
