In Chrome, open the page you want to keep, then click the Save Page WE toolbar button, use the page’s right-click menu, or press Alt+A. Save Page WE creates a single .html file representing the webpage as it is currently displayed—not a copy of the entire website or its server-side behavior.
Save the current page as one HTML file
- Open the webpage in Chrome and wait until it shows the content you want to preserve. Save Page WE captures the page in its current displayed state.
- Start the save using one of the available methods:
- Click the Save Page WE toolbar button.
- Right-click the page, open the Save Page WE submenu, and choose a save command.
- Press Alt+A.
- Save the resulting file. Its default filename extension is
.html, and the file can be opened in a browser.
The extension’s Chrome Web Store listing describes the result as one HTML file of the page “as currently displayed.”
Choose a save mode
Save Page WE offers three item choices. The listing does not enumerate every resource included in each choice, so check the extension’s options rather than assuming a particular CSS, image, font, script, or media inclusion.
- Basic Items: The basic save choice.
- Standard Items: Includes Basic Items plus some additional items.
- Custom Items: Combines Basic Items with items you select from a list.
These choices are available from the page’s Save Page WE context-menu submenu. The toolbar button’s action can also be configured for selected tabs or a list of URLs.

- To save pages from a URL list, load a file containing the URLs in the extension’s options, then choose Save Listed URLs.
When the load-lazy-content option is enabled during multi-page saves, tabs are brought to the foreground as they are processed.

Press Alt+C to cancel a single-page or multiple-page save.
If a page fails with the old save method
The Chrome Web Store listing says the old method is the default, remembers the last save location, and may not save some pages in Chrome 84 or later; it specifically names Yahoo. The listing says the newer method can save more pages. If a save fails, look in Save Page WE’s options for the newer method and try it, but it is not a guarantee that every failing page will work.

What the saved file does—and does not—preserve
The result is intended to represent the page as displayed when saved. Do not treat it as a complete website archive: the extension’s stated purpose does not promise to preserve every server-side behavior, nor does the listing excerpt specify exactly which resources every save mode includes. If a particular image, interaction, or other page component matters, open the saved file in a browser and check it.
Or skip the browser setup
