The fix depends on how you are watching: casting from Chrome, using a Google TV Streamer, or adjusting a TV’s audio delay call for different steps. The Astra documentation identified here describes Astra as a Jellyfin client for Fire TV running Vega OS 1.2 or later; it does not establish that Astra supports YouTube or provide an Astra-specific YouTube sync fix.
First, isolate the YouTube audio delay
- Replay the same passage and note whether the sound consistently leads or lags the picture.
- Try another YouTube video. If only one video or channel is affected, the issue may be specific to that source.
- Try another app, then compare TV speakers with a soundbar or receiver if available. This helps identify whether the issue follows YouTube, the playback device, or the audio equipment.
- Before changing a global audio setting, identify your playback route: a native YouTube app, Chrome casting, or an external streamer. Use the instructions below only for the route and hardware they describe.
Exact menu names vary by TV model and software. If you cannot find a setting, check the manual or support page for your specific model.
If you cast YouTube from Chrome
Google’s Chrome-casting guidance recommends restarting the casting path before changing TV settings:
- Stop casting and close the Chrome tab.
- Reopen the tab and the same content, then cast again.
- Close computer applications that are using substantial resources.
- Keep the computer, Wi-Fi router, and Google streaming device within 5–6 metres (15–20 feet) of one another, ideally in the same room.
- Restart the Google streaming device by disconnecting its power for about one minute. Removing it from the TV’s HDMI port alone does not reboot it.
These steps apply to content cast from Chrome; they are not general instructions for every YouTube app or device. Google’s Chrome casting troubleshooting guide has the route-specific guidance.

If you use a Google TV Streamer
Google’s audio troubleshooting steps for Google TV Streamer focus on the full HDMI and sound-system chain:
- Check the HDMI cable and eARC arrangement, and restart the streamer.
- Look for an audio-offset or sync adjustment on the TV, receiver, or soundbar.
- Set the streamer’s audio output format to Automatic. If you select Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo manually, Google says the connected equipment should support that format.
- Turn off Dialogue enhancement and Volume leveller, then test with surround sound disabled.
- If needed, reboot the router.
Google specifies an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 certified cable for Google TV Streamer setup. Check that your equipment and cable match the setup before considering a replacement; the recommendation is not evidence that buying a cable fixes YouTube sync problems generally. If sound is ahead of the picture on a Samsung TV
Samsung UK’s documented path for supported TVs is Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Delay. If sound arrives before the picture, move the slider right to increase the delay. Samsung notes that wireless streaming can contribute to sync delays, and recommends checking supported codecs and software updates. Menu availability and names can differ by model and software version. Samsung’s audio-delay instructions give the manufacturer’s guidance.
If you use an LG TV
LG’s instructions depend on the webOS version and audio output. For webOS 6.0 or later, the documented path is All Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > Match Screen and Sound. Bypass outputs sound without delay. If the sync problem remains, turn Bypass off and adjust TV Speaker Delay carefully.

For webOS 5.0 or earlier, LG documents AV Sync Adjustment and a Bypass option. The steps vary by model; LG’s stated eARC/ARC applicability is limited to TV speakers or supported Sound Share devices. If the issue occurs on only one channel, LG says a broadcast-signal problem is highly likely; compare other channels before changing a general audio setting. See LG’s AV Sync Adjustment guide.
Retest before keeping an audio adjustment
After a change, replay the same passage. Then check another video or app, and switch back to the original audio output if you changed it. If the adjustment fixes one source but throws another out of sync, restore the previous setting and troubleshoot the affected playback route instead.

Common troubleshooting mistakes
- Changing the TV delay before identifying the route: a setting that compensates for one device or source can create a mismatch elsewhere. First compare videos, apps, and outputs.
- Removing a Google streaming device from HDMI to restart it: Google says this does not reboot the device. Disconnect its power instead.
- Applying Google TV Streamer instructions to an unrelated device: those audio-format and HDMI steps are specific to Google TV Streamer.
- Assuming Astra is the YouTube playback device: the Astra help page identified here describes a Jellyfin client for Fire TV running Vega OS 1.2 or later, not YouTube support. Confirm the app and device actually playing YouTube before following hardware-specific instructions.
