Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →No—not if the computer is the only device running the encoder or producing the video. Shutting it down stops that feed from reaching YouTube. To keep a broadcast going, its video source and encoder must both keep running independently of the computer. “Astra Streaming” is also ambiguous: the Astra Streaming Studio listing describes an Android streaming app, not a confirmed way to take over a computer’s existing broadcast.
What happens to YouTube Live when you shut down the computer?
YouTube receives video from an encoder, which may be software on a computer or a separate hardware device. If the computer is running the encoder and sending the video, shutting it down stops that transmission. YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” See YouTube’s encoder setup and streaming guidance.
The source matters too. A separate encoder cannot keep sending computer-generated gameplay, a desktop capture, or a webcam feed if that source disappears when the PC shuts down. Both the source and the encoder need to remain available.
What does “Astra Streaming” refer to?
The name does not identify one confirmed YouTube solution. The Astra Streaming Studio Google Play listing describes an Android app for mobile streaming and says it supports RTMP and RTSP. That does not establish that it can take over a desktop encoder’s feed or continue a computer-hosted broadcast after shutdown. The listing was updated October 31, 2023, so check its current setup guidance and test it with your intended phone and source before relying on it.

There is also a separate product called DataStax Astra Streaming, documented as a data and event-streaming service—not a YouTube video encoder. Its Astra Streaming FAQ concerns that unrelated service.
Choose an approach based on your video source
| What you want to stream | What must stay running | Practical approach |
|---|---|---|
| Gameplay, desktop capture, or a webcam connected to the PC | The source-producing computer and its encoder, unless you recreate the source elsewhere | Keep the PC awake, or move both the source and encoding to an independent system. A hardware encoder alone cannot preserve a source that exists only on the shut-down PC. |
| Live camera or other independent input | The camera or source, a configured encoder, network, and power | A standalone hardware encoder can send an independent input to YouTube while the computer is off. YouTube lists examples in its encoder guidance. |
| Prerecorded video scheduled or looped as a live stream | A playback source and encoder or service that can run without the PC | Consider a hardware feature or hosted service intended for prerecorded streams; confirm supported media, scheduling, account requirements, runtime limits, and terms. |
| Android phone as the source | The phone, its streaming app, network, and power | Astra Streaming Studio’s listing mentions RTMP, but the available documentation does not establish its YouTube-specific configuration or a desktop-feed takeover. Verify the current instructions and test first. |
Hardware or hosted streaming for an independent setup
Standalone hardware encoder
YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as a hardware encoder for direct YouTube Live streaming. YouTube also describes its PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a possible option for a compatible independent live input or prerecorded media; it does not transfer a PC-only source after shutdown. Check the device’s current input, media, scheduling, and setup requirements against your use case in YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Hosted service for prerecorded video
YouTube’s encoder guide also lists cloud streaming products for continuous prerecorded streams. A hosted service can be appropriate when the uploaded video itself is the source, but do not assume every service supports the same formats, schedules, runtimes, or stream controls. Confirm those details and the service’s terms before relying on it. The available Astra information does not verify an Astra cloud-video feature.
Or let it run in the cloud
For uploaded videos or playlists that should keep a YouTube channel live, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream keeps the quality you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded videos, not live camera feeds, and streams to YouTube only. Troubleshooting: why a broadcast stops
- The stream ends when the PC powers off: The encoder or source was running on that computer. Keep it running or move both roles to an independent device or hosted setup.
- A separate encoder has no video after shutdown: Check whether its source depends on the PC. Connect an independent camera or other supported input, or use a prerecorded-media workflow.
- An Android app does not appear to connect to YouTube: RTMP support alone does not confirm a YouTube-specific setup. Check the app’s current configuration instructions, verify the destination and stream key, and test before scheduling a broadcast.
- A prerecorded stream stops unexpectedly: Check the service’s supported formats, runtime limits, schedule, account requirements, network, and terms. These details vary by product and are not established for Astra Streaming Studio as a hosted video service.
Copyright and YouTube rules still apply
Changing the encoder or moving playback to the cloud does not change your responsibility for the content. Use video and audio you have the rights to stream, and review YouTube’s current live-stream requirements before broadcasting. A 24/7 setup also needs a source and service configured to keep playback running; the term “Astra Streaming” alone does not establish that capability.
