If you mean using an external microphone, mixer, or USB audio source in your live program, Larix Broadcaster for Android supports a USB OTG route—but Softvelum describes it as experimental, so you must test your exact phone and device. The documented method sends that audio as the program’s sound; a separate viewer-selectable alternate audio track is not documented in the official Larix and YouTube materials reviewed.

What “external audio track” means here

In a live-streaming setup, “external audio” can mean routing a sound source—such as a microphone or mixer—into the audio that viewers hear. Larix’s documented Android USB OTG method is for this use. Softvelum says UVC OTG USB devices can be used as video and audio sources, and identifies the feature as experimental.

A different feature would send multiple separate audio tracks so viewers could choose between them during playback. The official Larix and YouTube materials reviewed do not document that workflow. Do not assume that connecting a USB source creates a selectable alternate track.

Before you connect anything

  • Use an Android device running Android 7.0 or later, the minimum listed in Softvelum’s Larix Broadcaster for Android documentation.
  • Check that the phone supports USB host/OTG and that the specific USB device supports audio capture with that phone. A USB-C OTG adapter may be needed, depending on the phone’s connector; an adapter alone does not guarantee compatibility.
  • Confirm the source’s output is suitable for the device’s input. In particular, check whether the source is a microphone-level or line-level signal and whether you need multiple simultaneous inputs.
  • Consider power needs and how the phone, adapter, and audio device will be powered during the stream.

Softvelum warns that some phone-and-device combinations may not work properly. Compatibility depends on the handset, Android version, Larix version, and connected hardware; verify the exact combination before an event.

Set up the USB audio input in Larix

  1. Connect the hardware path. Attach the USB audio device to the Android phone, using a compatible OTG adapter if required. Follow the audio device’s own connection and power instructions.
  2. Enable USB support. In Larix Broadcaster, open Advanced settings → USB Camera and enable the feature.
  3. Restart Larix. Softvelum’s documented setup calls for restarting the app after enabling USB Camera.
  4. Initialize the device if needed. Softvelum notes that tapping the camera ON/OFF control may be necessary to initialize the USB camera. The wording refers to the camera control; available controls and routing behavior can vary by device and app version. Do not expect a universal audio-source selector that is not shown for your setup.
  5. Confirm input before streaming publicly. Check Larix’s audio meter or source behavior, then run a private or unlisted test where appropriate and verify the sound in YouTube’s preview.

Connect Larix to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. If live streaming has not previously been enabled on the channel, YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours; that is an activation delay, not a delay caused by external audio setup.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key provided by the Live Control Room into Larix’s connection settings. Use the URL supplied for your stream rather than assuming a fixed endpoint.
  3. When Larix supports it, use the RTMPS URL supplied by YouTube. RTMPS adds TLS encryption. Treat the stream key like a password: keep it private and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
  4. Start with a private or unlisted test if that suits your event, and wait for YouTube’s preview to show the incoming stream before going public.

YouTube’s encoder workflow supports external audio and video hardware. The RTMP(S) destination and key come from the Live Control Room; Larix publishes the stream to that destination.

Check the audio before the event

Larix documents AAC audio encoding on Android outside WebRTC. For standard live ingestion, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. Use the Live Control Room preview as the final check that the encoded sound is arriving cleanly.

Troubleshoot missing or poor audio

Symptom What to check What to try
No audio reaches Larix or YouTube USB host/OTG support, the adapter and cable, Android USB permissions, device power, and whether the device can provide audio capture to this phone. Reseat the adapter and device; check Android permissions and host support; restart Larix after enabling USB Camera; try the camera ON/OFF initialization Softvelum describes. Test the same cable and source chain outside the event if possible.
The USB device connects, but Larix does not use it as expected Whether the particular combination is supported and whether the expected controls exist in that Larix and Android version. Confirm the setup against Softvelum’s USB OTG instructions. Because support is experimental, test another known-compatible device path rather than assuming a universal selector or guaranteed input behavior.
Sound is distorted, too quiet, or noisy Source level, mixer output, cabling, power, and whether the connection is appropriate for microphone or line-level audio. Adjust levels at the source or mixer and check the full chain in a test stream. Avoid raising a noisy signal excessively at the phone end.
One stereo channel is silent or unbalanced Source routing, stereo cable connections, and the audio device’s channel configuration. Check the left/right outputs and monitor both channels in YouTube’s preview before the live event.
YouTube does not receive the stream The stream URL and key copied from the current Live Control Room session, and whether live streaming has been activated for the channel. Re-enter the current URL and key in Larix, use the supplied RTMPS URL if supported, and check the Live Control Room status. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow for YouTube’s stated activation period of up to 24 hours.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, rather than stream a live microphone or mixer feed from your phone, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera or accept this Larix external-audio setup as a camera feed.
