A Smattering of Selenium #96 was a Selenium community link roundup by Adam Goucher, published on June 27, 2012. “#96” is the roundup’s installment number—not a Selenium software release. The post collected links about test samples, developer tools, behavior-driven development (BDD), and browser automation services.

What the 2012 roundup covered

Goucher’s post was a collection of links rather than a release announcement or a single tutorial. Its subjects ranged from example projects and development tools to ways of organizing and running browser tests. The links are useful as a snapshot of the Selenium community’s interests in 2012, but the post does not establish that the linked tools and services remain available or work the same way today.

Samples and developer tools

The roundup linked to a jbehave-selenium sample project and the Light Table Playground. It also included Jasmine, a JavaScript testing framework, and VsVim, a Vim-emulation extension for Visual Studio. These references point to different parts of a developer’s toolkit; they are not all Selenium components.

BDD and test organization

Several links focused on behavior-driven development and test readability: pytest-mozwebqa 1.0, Py.Saunter, the Python BDD frameworks pyccuracy and SpecLoud, and guidance about naming Cucumber features and scenario outlines. The post also linked to a Sauce Labs discussion about giving tests meaningful names.

Browser automation services

Joyride appeared in the post as a service for browser automation without programming. That description belongs to the 2012 roundup. The post does not confirm Joyride’s present availability, capabilities, or terms, nor does the Sauce Labs link establish current product details.

Does “Selenium 96” mean Chrome 96?

No. The “96” in the post title is the roundup number, and the post dates to 2012. Chrome 96 appears in a separate Selenium context from 2021: Selenium’s Technical Leadership Committee meeting notes for November 10 list Chrome 96 CDP bindings among work remaining for Selenium 4.1.0. Selenium’s JavaScript changelog for 4.1.0 records CDP v96 support, along with removal of v93 and Shadow DOM handling. These are historical version records, not current compatibility guidance.

How to use the post today

Read the original post as a historical directory of community links, not as a current installation guide or tool recommendation. Before adopting any named project or service, check its current official documentation, maintenance status, supported browser versions, and compatibility with your stack. The roundup itself does not answer those present-day questions.

A current alternative for screenshot capture

If your task is to capture web pages as images or PDFs rather than to run Selenium browser tests, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a replacement for Selenium’s test automation. It accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server offers screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
