That lets your phone send a camera or screen broadcast to YouTube; it does not make the phone workflow an unattended 24/7 channel. For a continuous prerecorded loop, use a service designed to keep a YouTube stream running in the cloud.
Before you start
- Your YouTube channel must be eligible for live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours; channel verification and the absence of a recent live-stream restriction are also required. Check YouTube’s encoder setup requirements before a scheduled broadcast.
- Install Streamlabs Mobile on your iOS or Android phone and sign in. Streamlabs documents both native YouTube connection and custom RTMP setup; app labels may change. Streamlabs Mobile setup guide
- Decide whether you want a phone camera/screen broadcast or an uploaded video loop. Streamlabs Mobile is documented for broadcasting from a phone, not as a guaranteed unattended prerecorded-video loop.
Find your YouTube stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select an existing one. Open the stream settings and copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube defines the key as the credential an encoder uses to send a feed to your channel. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Keep the key private. Anyone who has it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in Streamlabs. Manage YouTube live stream settings
Add the key to Streamlabs Mobile using Custom RTMP
- In Streamlabs Mobile, open the menu and choose Account Settings, then Custom RTMP Server setup. Streamlabs’ published menu labels can change with app updates. Streamlabs Custom RTMP instructions
- Enter a platform label you will recognize, paste the YouTube stream URL into the server field, and paste the YouTube stream key into the key field.
- Save the destination. When you are ready to broadcast, select that custom RTMP destination in the Go Live workflow and start the stream.
- Confirm that the feed appears in YouTube Live Control Room before sharing the public link. A successful connection in the phone app alone does not prove that YouTube is receiving the stream.
Alternative: connect YouTube directly
You do not have to enter a key manually if you use Streamlabs’ documented native YouTube connection. Connect your YouTube account in Streamlabs and select YouTube during the Go Live flow. The native connection is convenient when you want Streamlabs to associate the broadcast with your YouTube account and event. Custom RTMP is useful when you specifically need to provide the server URL and key yourself. Either way, protect account access and verify the destination in Live Control Room.
Test the broadcast and choose settings for your connection
- Start with a private or unlisted test, using representative audio and movement. Check the YouTube preview and stream health before making a broadcast public.
- Choose resolution and bitrate based on your phone’s available upload connection and YouTube’s current encoder recommendations—not a universal preset. YouTube’s settings guide provides bitrate ranges by resolution and frame rate. Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Watch the stream while it is live, particularly if the network or audio conditions may change. If the stream becomes unstable, lower the output demands or move to a more reliable connection, then test again.
- In YouTube’s stream settings, review auto-start and auto-stop if you use a scheduled or reusable stream. These controls affect YouTube’s handling of the broadcast; they do not make a phone app run unattended. Manage live stream settings

Do not treat Streamlabs Mobile as a 24/7 unattended encoder. For a genuine always-on channel, distinguish a live phone camera feed from a prerecorded playlist loop. Check whether a candidate setup supports continuous operation and recovery after disconnects, the type of source you want to play, monitoring, key security, and the operating cost. A fixed phone mount can stabilize a camera angle, but it does not provide unattended operation, dependable power, or network failover.

Troubleshooting
The app says it is live, but YouTube does not show a stream
Check Live Control Room to see whether YouTube is receiving the feed, and confirm that the selected destination is the intended one. Streamlabs has documented a version-sensitive Disconnect Protection connectivity issue with this symptom; check the current status of its support notice before trying an older workaround. YouTube rejects the key or receives no signal
- Make sure you copied the stream URL and key from the selected YouTube stream, without adding spaces or using a key from another stream.
- If you reset the key, update it in Streamlabs as well. A reset key will not match the old encoder configuration.
- Recheck that you saved the custom RTMP destination and selected it before going live.
The stream drops or looks unstable
Use YouTube’s stream health and preview to distinguish a connection problem from a configuration problem. Test on the same network you plan to use, and adjust bitrate or resolution to the upload capacity available at the phone. Re-test after changes rather than assuming the setting is stable. Live streaming is not available yet
For a first-time channel activation, allow up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming. Confirm that the channel is verified and is not subject to a recent live-streaming restriction before troubleshooting the app.

Copyright and channel policy checks
A technically successful stream is not automatically permitted content. Before broadcasting, make sure you have rights to the video, music, and other material in the feed. Reused or repetitive programming can also affect how YouTube evaluates a channel for monetization; a looping stream is not a shortcut around YouTube’s policies. Review YouTube channel monetization policies and YouTube copyright guidance for the rules that apply to your content.
