For a prerecorded bhajan playlist broadcast to YouTube Live, OBS is generally the better fit. Its VLC Video source can play a playlist and loop it while OBS handles the broadcast. VLC is a capable media player and streaming tool, but its official streaming example describes serving media over HTTP on a local network—not a current, documented recipe for sending a stream directly to YouTube.
That distinction matters for a 24/7 stream: looping a playlist does not guarantee that the broadcast stays live. With OBS on your own computer, the files, application, power and internet connection must remain available, and you need to monitor stream health.

OBS documents the scene-and-source workflow, while VideoLAN documents VLC’s playback and stream-processing capabilities. Software features can change, so check the current settings for the versions you install.
Can OBS loop a bhajan playlist on YouTube Live?
Yes. Add a VLC Video source to an OBS scene, add the bhajan files in the order you want, and enable playlist looping. The source exposes loop and shuffle controls; Loop Playlist is on by default. VLC must be installed for the source to appear, and its architecture must match OBS. See OBS’s Media Sources and Sources Guide.

Set up the playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. Install the same architecture as OBS; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the broadcast, then add a VLC Video source to that scene.
- Add the recordings. Choose the local bhajan files, arrange their order, and select loop or shuffle to suit the programme.
- Check the preview and mixer. Confirm that video advances between tracks and the audio meter responds. Listen for clipping or silence before going live.
How to start the stream with OBS
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, confirm live streaming is enabled, create or schedule the broadcast, and choose its privacy setting.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Use YouTube’s encoder setup or a currently supported OBS integration. Copy the stream key into the encoder configuration, and keep it private—it is a credential that can let someone else broadcast to your channel.
- Check the incoming preview. Wait for YouTube to receive the encoder feed and confirm the picture and sound in the preview before selecting Go Live. YouTube’s Full Live Production guide describes this encoder, key, preview and go-live workflow.
- Run a short test first. Check that the playlist advances, loops as expected, audio is audible and the connection remains stable. OBS recommends testing before the first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
What a 24/7 OBS stream requires
A playlist loop repeats media; it does not keep every part of the broadcast operational. For a DIY stream, plan for the computer, OBS, VLC, source files, power and network connection to remain available. Prevent the host machine from sleeping, keep the media accessible, and decide who can restart playback or the encoder if an interruption occurs. These are practical operating requirements, not a guarantee of unattended uptime.
Watch OBS’s connection indicators. OBS says a rising dropped-frame count indicates a connection that is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Investigate the connection and bitrate rather than assuming that the playlist itself has failed; see the OBS Help Portal.

Copyright and bhajan recordings
Devotional music is not exempt from copyright rules. YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can cause a placeholder, interruption or termination. Before streaming, secure permission for each recording that covers public live transmission and any archive you intend to make. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be added to its allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an interruption.
YouTube’s Copyright issues with live streams explains scanning and interruptions. Its Full Live Production guide also says live content must follow YouTube Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

Will YouTube save the full replay?
Do not assume a continuous stream will produce a complete replay. Google/YouTube’s Full Live Production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and advises teams to record longer streams for manual upload. Treat that as a dated operational caveat, not a promise about current Studio behavior: verify the archive options shown for your broadcast before relying on them. If a complete replay matters, make a separate local recording or record in manageable segments.
Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen OBS. Confirm the VLC and OBS architectures match; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist plays once and stops: Open the VLC Video source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled. The setting is on by default, but confirm it for the source you are using.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Recheck the selected broadcast, encoder connection and stream key. Keep the key private; if it was exposed, replace it through YouTube’s stream settings.
- Dropped frames rise: OBS associates rising dropped frames with an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check network stability and adjust the configured bitrate to a level the connection can support.
- The stream is interrupted after a music match: Check the claim and contact the rights holder. Confirm that the permission covers live use and ask about Content ID allowlisting.
- The archive is incomplete or missing: Check current YouTube Studio behavior rather than relying on the general guide’s 12-hour statement. Use a separate recording if a complete replay is important.
