Start by identifying what fails: a missing icon, a disabled extension, a capture that fails everywhere, or just the Full Page or Selected Area option on one page. The last case may be Chrome restricting extensions on that page—not a broken installation. Work through the checks below in order, beginning with the page and extension state before reinstalling.
Identify what is not working
Note the affected page and the exact symptom before changing settings. Does the extension icon not appear? Does its popup open but capture fail? Are Full Page or Selected Area unavailable, or does only recording fail? Does the screenshot save incorrectly? Test a normal website as well as the page where the problem began. If only one capture mode fails on one page, check Chrome’s page restrictions first.
If the icon is simply hidden, open Chrome’s Extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon) and pin Awesome Screenshot. The vendor’s installation guide describes pinning the extension.
Check whether Chrome restricts capture on the page
Awesome Screenshot says Chrome restricts extension scripts on some pages, including URLs beginning with chrome://, Chrome settings, the Chrome Web Store, and other extensions. Full Page and Selected Area may therefore be unavailable there even when the extension works normally elsewhere. Chrome’s restriction is a browser security boundary, not something reinstalling the extension can remove. See the vendor’s guidance on unavailable Full Page and Selected Area modes.

On a restricted page, try Visible Part or Entire Screen & App Window, then crop the result. The vendor also suggests its desktop app for selected-area capture. If a mode is available but captures an ordinary webpage incorrectly, send the URL to Awesome Screenshot through the extension’s Feedback option or its website.
Restart and update Chrome and the extension
- Save your work and restart the computer, then reopen Chrome and test the same capture again.
- In Chrome, open ⋮ > Help > About Google Chrome. Let Chrome check for updates and install any available update, then relaunch the browser if prompted.
- Open ⋮ > Extensions > Manage extensions. Find Awesome Screenshot and check whether Chrome offers an update; install the current extension version if available.
- Restart Chrome once more and repeat the test on a regular webpage.
This follows the vendor’s general troubleshooting sequence. Menu wording can vary as Chrome changes.

Verify the extension is enabled and allowed on the site
- Open ⋮ > Extensions > Manage extensions.
- Find Awesome Screenshot and confirm its enabled switch is on. If Chrome shows a repair option or marks the extension corrupted, use Repair if available.
- If it fails only on selected websites, inspect the extension’s Details and Site access settings. Chrome may allow access on the current site, selected sites, or all sites; choose the scope appropriate to your use.
- If Chrome says the extension is unsupported or has disabled it, follow the browser’s prompt rather than trying to bypass its protection.
Chrome’s official extension management help covers enabled state and repair, while its site-access instructions explain permission scope. A work- or school-managed Chrome installation may be subject to administrator policy; contact IT if the setting is locked or the extension is blocked.
Toggle or reinstall the extension
- In ⋮ > Extensions > Manage extensions, switch Awesome Screenshot off, wait briefly, then switch it back on.
- Test again. If the failure continues, remove the extension from Manage extensions and install the latest version from the Chrome Web Store. Then restart Chrome.
Removing an extension can remove its local state. If you rely on settings or unsaved work associated with it, account for that before removal. The vendor recommends toggling first and reinstalling if necessary.

Test for a conflict in a clean Chrome profile
Another extension or a profile-specific setting may interfere. To isolate that possibility:
- Create a new Chrome profile using Chrome’s profile menu.
- Install only Awesome Screenshot in that profile and test the same page and capture mode.
- If it works in the clean profile, return to the original profile and disable other extensions. Re-enable them one at a time, testing between changes, to identify a likely conflict.
- If the issue remains in the clean profile, record the result along with the affected page and any error message for support.
A clean-profile test helps distinguish a profile or extension conflict from a page restriction or broader issue; it does not by itself establish the exact cause. The vendor’s troubleshooting article recommends this isolation step.

Check recording permissions only when recording fails
The vendor’s setup guide asks users to follow the setup prompt to grant Microphone and Camera access. Those permissions are relevant to recording or incomplete setup; they are not a general fix for screenshot capture. If screenshots work but recording does not, review Chrome’s camera and microphone permissions and the extension’s setup prompts. Do not grant permissions you do not need.

If the steps above do not resolve it, contact Awesome Screenshot through its website or extension Feedback. Include the Chrome version, operating system, affected page URL, capture mode, whether the device is managed by work or school, and what happened in a clean profile. Attach a screenshot of any error or a shareable recording showing the cursor and when the failure occurs. The vendor asks for screenshots or a recording when the problem persists.

Use a software workaround if Chrome remains the blocker
The vendor lists its desktop app, website recorder, and extension for another browser as alternatives. Choose according to the task: if the issue is limited to Chrome pages with restricted extension access, another browser or the desktop app may help; if you only need a regular webpage capture, the website recorder may be sufficient. The vendor’s troubleshooting guidance does not establish current feature parity, pricing, or program terms for these alternatives, so check their current details before switching. Installing software may also be disallowed on managed devices.

Why is Full Page or Selected Area unavailable on a Chrome settings page?
Chrome restricts extension scripts on browser-internal pages and some other protected pages, so those capture modes may not be available there.
