Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Short answer: XSplit Broadcaster is the clearer fit if you want to configure YouTube output and attach it to a scheduled YouTube event; vMix documents more explicit playlist automation, but its own knowledge base says it does not provide time-of-day scheduling for a continuous TV-style channel. Neither point proves that a playlist will launch itself at a set hour. If you need a YouTube channel to run unattended around the clock, StreamNeo is the simpler cloud alternative: upload a video or playlist, add your stream key, and go live.
First separate three different kinds of scheduling
“Scheduled live stream” can mean different things, and the distinction matters more than a feature checklist:
- A scheduled YouTube event: a public event page created in YouTube Studio. XSplit’s guide documents selecting an event that has already been created; it does not establish that XSplit will start encoding at the event time. XSplit’s YouTube Live guide.
- Playlist playback: playing prerecorded files one after another, or looping them, while a stream is already running. vMix documents playlist/list playback automation. XSplit’s support manual index lists a video-playlist guide, but the available material does not establish the exact controls or behavior. XSplit support manual.
- A clock-based, unattended channel: starting and stopping a stream or changing programming automatically at specified times. The reviewed XSplit material does not establish that capability. vMix explicitly says it does not support time-of-day scheduling for continuous television programming.
Creating a YouTube event, building a playlist, and starting an encoder are separate actions. Confirm which of them must happen without an operator before choosing software.
How XSplit Broadcaster and vMix compare
| Need | XSplit Broadcaster | vMix |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Live output | Its official guide documents configuring a YouTube broadcast and its properties. XSplit guide. | Its version 29 feature guide lists YouTube Live output and built-in RTMP streaming. vMix features. |
| Attach to a scheduled YouTube event | The guide says to create the event in YouTube Studio first, then select the scheduled event in broadcast settings. That is event association, not proof of an automatic encoder launch. | Comparable scheduled-event selection is not established in the reviewed vMix material. |
| Prerecorded videos | A playlist guide is listed in the support manual index; precise playlist controls are not established by the available guide evidence. | Supports video-file and List inputs, plus playlist automation. Its scheduling article describes items playing back-to-back or looping. |
| Fixed-time 24/7 programming | Not established by the reviewed material. Do not infer it from scheduled-event selection. | Not supported as a built-in time-of-day schedule for continuous programming, according to vMix’s knowledge base. |
| Operating system and system requirements | Windows software. XSplit lists Windows 10/11 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, and DirectX 10.1-capable graphics among requirements. XSplit requirements. | A comparable current requirements list was not established in the reviewed material. |
| Licensing and price | XSplit’s product page lists free and paid monthly, yearly, and lifetime options; it describes free streaming up to 720p without a watermark. Terms and prices can change, so check the current page. XSplit Broadcaster. | A current comparable edition and price matrix was not established in the reviewed material. |
When XSplit is the better fit
Choose XSplit when a Windows-based workflow and its documented YouTube setup suit your production, especially if you need to associate the broadcast with a scheduled event that already exists in YouTube Studio. Plan for an operator or separately validated automation to start the encoder when needed.

When vMix is the better fit
Consider vMix if its production workflow and documented file/List inputs and playlist automation fit the show, and you are comfortable with an operator-started stream or a separately designed automation setup. The playlist feature handles playback order or looping; it is not a clock-based channel scheduler.

vMix’s knowledge base states: “vMix is primarily designed for live streaming single events and as such does not support time of day scheduling.” The article, “Does vMix support scheduling?”, was last updated January 17, 2025. It describes PlayList and List as basic playback automation, with items playing back-to-back or looping. The feature overview reviewed is for version 29, so verify current version details with vMix before making a version-specific purchase or workflow commitment.
What to verify before committing to either desktop workflow
- Decide what must run unattended. Write down whether you only need a scheduled event page, playlist playback after a human starts the stream, or automatic start/stop at fixed times. Do not treat these as interchangeable.
- Create and check the YouTube event. For the XSplit event workflow, create the scheduled live event in YouTube Studio first, then select it in XSplit’s broadcast settings. Confirm the correct event is attached before going live.
- Test playlist behavior with your actual files. Confirm ordering, end-of-list behavior, looping, and recovery after a file ends or playback is interrupted. XSplit’s available support index does not establish its detailed playlist controls; vMix’s cited guidance supports back-to-back playback or looping.
- Validate launch and recovery separately. Test who or what starts the encoder, what happens if the PC or network disconnects, and whether the stream resumes. A scheduled YouTube event alone does not answer these questions.
- Check current platform and license terms. YouTube live eligibility, software requirements, and vendor licensing can change. Confirm the current terms directly with YouTube, XSplit, or vMix for your region and version.
Choose based on the job, not the word “schedule”
- Pick XSplit if direct YouTube configuration and attaching to an already-created scheduled event are useful, and an operator or separately verified automation will handle encoder startup.
- Pick vMix if its playlist/list automation and production tools fit, but your workflow does not depend on built-in time-of-day scheduling.
- Do not assume either desktop product provides unattended clock-based scheduling based on the evidence above. Ask the vendor or validate the exact version and external automation architecture before relying on it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel that stays live without a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
