OBS Studio is the best-supported free starting point if you want a graphical way to produce a YouTube live stream without FFmpeg. For a custom, command-line workflow, GStreamer is another genuine free option. Neither removes the need to keep your computer, power and internet connection running. If you are looping prerecorded videos and want to avoid leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a separate paid cloud option—not free software.
Choose by the kind of stream you want to run
“24/7 YouTube stream” can mean a live camera, game or desktop production that stays on, or a continuous broadcast made from prerecorded video files. Those are different workflows: a production encoder handles live inputs and scenes, while cloud playout can repeatedly send uploaded videos without a home encoder computer.

YouTube also lists Streamlabs and PRISM Live Studio as no-charge encoder options. Its listing establishes them as options to evaluate, but does not establish their long-run reliability or India-specific performance.
Best free graphical alternative: OBS Studio
YouTube lists Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) among its software encoders and describes it as open-source software for recording and live streaming at no charge. OBS Project documents its roles in capturing and compositing sources, encoding, recording and streaming. Its visual scenes-and-sources workflow makes it a practical first choice for combining a camera, desktop, game, audio and graphics. Sources establish its capabilities and cost, not superior 24/7 uptime.

When OBS makes sense
- You need a visual production interface for live inputs, scene changes or overlays.
- You want to combine live content with prerecorded media in a manually managed production.
- You can keep the encoding computer powered, connected and supervised, and can test recovery from an interruption.
What to test before relying on it
Run the exact scene collection, sources, encoder settings and network connection you intend to use for an extended trial. Watch YouTube’s stream-health feedback and record disconnects and restarts. No cited comparison establishes OBS’s crash rate, power consumption or suitability for every computer running continuously.
Free command-line alternative: GStreamer
GStreamer is a modular, open-source media framework rather than a one-click production studio. Its official documentation describes rtmpsink as sending FLV content to an RTMP server using librtmp. The documented example assembles a test video source, encoder, FLV muxer and sink to form a pipeline.

This option suits someone able to construct, debug and supervise a media pipeline. Check which plugins and protocol support are available in your installed build: the documented RTMP element belongs to GStreamer Bad Plug-ins. The example demonstrates an RTMP pipeline; it does not validate every YouTube RTMPS configuration. No evidence here shows GStreamer to be more reliable than OBS or FFmpeg for an always-on broadcast.

YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends choosing a quality that is reliable for your actual connection, testing upload bitrate, using representative audio and movement, and monitoring stream health. It recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP, and lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 for the relevant ingest workflows. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings for the workflow and codec you use.

Connect an encoder
- Enable live streaming on the YouTube account if you have not already done so. YouTube says initial live enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the server URL and stream key for the broadcast, then enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in public screenshots, examples or messages; replace it in the YouTube control room if it is exposed.
- Start a test stream and check YouTube’s stream-health status while the content includes the audio and movement you expect in normal use.
Use bitrate guidance as a starting point, not a speed guarantee
YouTube’s current H.264 recommended video bitrates include the following values. They are encoded-video recommendations—not guaranteed minimum internet speeds and not a claim about what an Indian ISP or home connection can sustain.

YouTube’s settings guidance specifies CBR, a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Test sustained upload on the connection you will actually use and leave practical headroom rather than selecting a bitrate that consumes all available upload capacity. The quoted bitrate values are YouTube guidance, not measured India-wide performance.

Account for 24/7 operating and replay limits
Local software depends on the encoder computer, its power supply, and a sustained connection. Test from the intended location and equipment; do not infer reliability from a short test or from national averages. In India, results can differ by ISP, city, Wi-Fi setup, mobile connection and route to YouTube ingest. Consider local power continuity as part of your own setup; any backup requirement depends on the equipment load and how long you need it to run.

Also plan around YouTube’s archive limit. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete replay archive. See YouTube’s live streaming help for current rules and workflow details.
