This captures the page available in your signed-in browser session; it does not bypass a login or provide access to content you cannot view.
Capture a signed-in page with Firefox Screenshot
- Sign in normally. Open the page in Firefox and complete the site’s usual login process. Check that the content you want is visible.
- Open Screenshot. Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-click also opens the context menu. Or use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot instructions if the command is not available.
- Choose what to capture. Drag over a region, point to a page element and select it, or click Save full page in the upper-right corner.
- Save or copy. Choose the save/download or copy action. Firefox’s documented download format is PNG.
If you use Screenshot often, add it to the toolbar through Menu → More Tools → Customize Toolbar, then drag the Screenshot item into place.
Use DevTools for page or element captures
Firefox DevTools is an alternative when you want its screenshot button or console options. It requires opening developer tools, and the full-page button must be enabled first.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open DevTools settings and find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. The screenshot icon is not enabled by default.
- Click the screenshot icon to capture the current page. Firefox saves the image to the browser’s Downloads directory.

Use the Web Console for more control
In the Web Console, Firefox’s :screenshot helper supports options including --fullpage to capture beyond the visible window, --selector followed by a CSS selector to capture an element, and --delay to wait before capturing. The helper also documents device-pixel-ratio, clipboard, and filename options. Consult Mozilla’s command reference for the exact syntax and available options in your Firefox version.
What a login-required screenshot can and cannot capture
Firefox captures what it can render in the current tab. You need legitimate access to the page in that browser session; the screenshot feature does not authenticate you, bypass access controls, or reveal content hidden from your account. Mozilla’s instructions do not guarantee that every site’s dynamic content or exceptionally long page will render completely in a full-page capture.

If the result is incomplete, try capturing the specific visible region or element, or use DevTools’ page or element capture. Open the saved file and check it before sharing or relying on it.
Troubleshooting
- “Take Screenshot” is missing from the context menu: make sure you right-click an empty part of the web page, not browser chrome or a control that opens its own menu. Use the keyboard shortcut instead, or add Screenshot through Menu → More Tools → Customize Toolbar.
- The capture shows a login screen: sign in through the site’s normal process in that Firefox tab, then return to the page and capture it. A screenshot cannot use a session that has not been established in the browser.
- Full-page output is incomplete: some pages load or render content dynamically. Try the DevTools screenshot route, allow the page to finish loading, or select the needed region or element. Check the saved image.
- The DevTools screenshot icon is absent: open DevTools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.
- The Console command does not capture the intended content: verify the selector and option syntax against Mozilla’s Web Console screenshot documentation; use the built-in Screenshot interface if you only need a region or full-page capture.

Can I screenshot a page if I do not know its password?
Only if the page is already available to you in a signed-in Firefox session. The screenshot tools do not grant access or bypass the site’s login.
