Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a first test, use 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 at 5 Mbps, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. These are YouTube’s general encoder recommendations for that format—not a special music preset or a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. If your computer or upload connection struggles, test 720p30 instead. The right choice is the highest-quality configuration your system and connection can sustain reliably.
Recommended starting settings
Use YouTube’s encoder guidance as a baseline, then test with your actual music, visuals, computer, and internet connection. YouTube automatically detects encoder settings by default and transcodes the stream for viewer playback.
| Setting | Starting point | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p30 | A practical starting format for an audio-led stream where visuals are often relatively still. Try 720p30 if you need to reduce encoding or bandwidth load. |
| Video codec | H.264 | YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, but which encoders XSplit exposes depends on your hardware, installed drivers, and selected service. |
| Video bitrate | 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 | This is YouTube’s recommended value for that format. For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube lists 3 Mbps as a minimum and 8 Mbps as recommended. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding for live ingestion. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC, stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends these stereo settings. |
| Upload headroom | About 20% above the stream’s total bitrate | YouTube recommends leaving room for network variation; a connection interruption can break the stream. |
YouTube’s 720p30 bitrate range leaves room to test: 3 Mbps is its listed minimum, while 8 Mbps is its recommendation. A static visual may look acceptable at a lower bitrate than fast motion, but that is a practical possibility to validate in your own test, not an official music-specific preset.
For an audio-led broadcast that does not rely on real-time audience interaction, lower latency is usually less important. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering, so choose a latency setting based on interaction needs and test viewer playback.

Set up XSplit Broadcaster for YouTube
- Build the scene. Add the music and visual sources you intend to use. XSplit scenes are collections of sources arranged in a layout. Set the canvas resolution and frame rate before going live.
- Connect the YouTube output. Use XSplit’s platform setup to configure the YouTube destination. In YouTube Studio, confirm the correct channel and live event. YouTube’s encoder setup requires a stream URL and stream key; treat the key like a password and do not share it.
- Open the output’s encoding properties. Set resolution, frame rate, video bitrate and rate control, keyframe interval, and audio encoding where those controls are available. Choose an encoder compatible with your system and output service. XSplit says codec availability varies with hardware, drivers, and service; leave advanced encoder options at their defaults unless a platform requirement or a deliberate advanced configuration calls for a change.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Use the actual audio and visuals. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages while the test is running rather than assuming a successful connection means the stream is healthy.
- Check the viewer experience. Open the stream on a separate device and confirm that video appears, audio is audible, and playback remains stable. Re-test after changing software, drivers, sources, or network equipment.
Prepare a music stream for a long run
Prove stability before extending the broadcast
These encoder settings cannot guarantee a 24/7 broadcast. The cited XSplit and YouTube guidance explains setup and connection practices, but does not establish an XSplit uptime configuration, automatic recovery behavior, or a recommended restart schedule. Monitor stream health and decide how you will respond if the encoder, computer, or network stops sending video.
Measure upload speed under realistic conditions, including times when other devices use the connection. Keep roughly 20% headroom above the stream’s total bitrate, as YouTube recommends. A speed-test result from an otherwise idle network is not proof that the connection will hold during a long session.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
Plan around YouTube’s archive condition
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is outside that stated condition, so do not expect the entire broadcast to be saved as one automatic archive. Check YouTube’s current workflow and make a separate recording or archiving plan if you need a copy.
Clear music rights and Content ID
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, and temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream if the content remains. For licensed third-party music, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Use music you have appropriate rights and platform clearance to broadcast.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports unstable stream health or viewers see buffering | Insufficient or inconsistent upload bandwidth, or a bitrate too high for the connection. | Check stream-health messages, test upload speed under normal household or studio use, preserve the recommended headroom, and try a lower-load profile such as 720p30. |
| XSplit does not offer the codec or encoder you expected | Encoder availability depends on hardware, installed drivers, and the selected streaming service. | Use a compatible encoder that XSplit exposes. Check the relevant drivers and platform setup rather than forcing unsupported parameters. |
| Stream connects but the picture or sound is missing or wrong | A scene source, output property, or audio route may not match the intended setup. | Review the scene sources and output encoding properties, then test playback on a separate device with the actual music and visuals. |
| The live stream is interrupted while music plays | A network disruption or a third-party-content match may have affected the broadcast. | Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and any copyright notices. Confirm that the music is cleared for live use and, where applicable, that the rights holder has allowlisted the channel. |
| The broadcast is not available as one complete automatic archive | The 24-hour stream exceeds YouTube’s documented under-12-hour automatic archive condition. | Plan another recording or archiving workflow and confirm the current YouTube Studio options. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer or connection to be responsible for keeping the broadcast running, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer can be off; the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Every slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
