To capture an Indian-language webpage accurately, make sure Chromium has rendered the intended script in a suitable font before taking the screenshot. Record your browser and operating-system environment, wait for fonts and page content to load, capture at the needed viewport, and inspect the resulting image for missing glyphs, clipped marks, and unexpected line breaks. Chromium’s basic Headless screenshot command captures a viewport; use a workflow with explicit full-page support when you need the entire document in one image.
Why the rendered font matters
A screenshot records the pixels Chromium rendered, not the page’s HTML intent. If a font is missing, still loading, or lacks glyph coverage for the text, the image can show fallback lettering, missing-glyph boxes, or text that is temporarily invisible. The Chromium project notes that font rendering is handled differently across platforms: How Chromium Displays Web Pages.
Indian languages use multiple scripts, and a page may include conjuncts, vowel marks, or other script-specific shaping. The page’s language metadata, available fonts, operating system, and browser build can all affect the result. There is no single font or Chromium setting that guarantees correct rendering for every page.
Prepare Chromium and the page
Record the capture environment
For a repeatable capture, note the Chromium or Chrome version, operating system, viewport dimensions, and whether the page relies on locally installed fonts or downloads web fonts. Different machines can render text differently even when they visit the same URL.

Check what Chromium actually rendered
Load the real webpage and inspect it visually. A DOM dump is not a screenshot: Chrome’s Headless documentation describes --dump-dom as serializing the DOM after parsing and script execution, not recording the rendered pixels. In DevTools, inspect the text’s computed styles and rendered font to identify the typeface actually used. See Chrome DevTools: What font is that?
Also check that the page identifies its language accurately where possible. Chrome’s font settings documentation describes language- and script-sensitive font selection; when page language information is unavailable, selection can fall back to the global or default script setting. See the browser.fontSettings reference.
Wait for fonts and required content
Web fonts may not be ready when a capture begins. Chrome’s guidance on keeping text visible during web-font loading explains how font-display options such as swap, optional, and fallback affect text while fonts load. If you control the page, confirm that font loading and any page-specific content required for the capture are ready before taking the screenshot.
A fixed Headless timeout can limit how long the browser waits, but it does not prove that a particular page’s fonts, images, or dynamic content have finished loading. For automation, use an explicit readiness condition where possible, and inspect the output rather than assuming a delay guarantees fidelity.

Capture a viewport screenshot or PDF with Headless Chromium
Chrome’s Headless command-line reference documents --screenshot, --window-size, --print-to-pdf, and --timeout: Chrome Headless command-line reference. Replace URL with the page address and adjust the dimensions to the intended viewport.
Viewport screenshot
Run this in a terminal where chrome resolves to your Chrome or Chromium binary:
chrome --headless --screenshot --window-size=1280,900 --timeout=10000 https://example.com
The screenshot is saved as screenshot.png. The window-size option sets the capture viewport; it does not establish that a long page will be captured from top to bottom. A timeout is a maximum wait, not a page-specific readiness check.

PDF output
To create a PDF instead of an image, use:
chrome --headless --print-to-pdf --timeout=10000 https://example.com
PDF output is useful when the deliverable should be a printable, potentially multipage document rather than one fixed-viewport image. Inspect its text and pagination too; a PDF command does not by itself guarantee that a web font or dynamic page content was ready.
Capture the whole page when needed
The reviewed Headless command-line reference documents screenshots but does not document a dedicated full-page screenshot flag. Do not treat a larger --window-size as a guarantee of full-page capture. If the complete document must appear in one image, choose an automation or capture workflow that explicitly supports full-page screenshots, and verify the output.
For long or dynamic pages, check whether content loads only after scrolling, and look for clipped edges or fixed and sticky elements that may affect the result. If one very tall image is unsuitable, capturing deliberate sections may be easier to inspect and use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteInspect the output for script and layout problems
- Check several representative lines, not just the heading. Look for missing-glyph boxes, fallback fonts, or characters that differ from the page’s intended appearance.
- For scripts where they apply, inspect conjuncts and diacritics for clipping, overlap, or misplaced marks.
- Compare line breaks and text wrapping with the rendered page at the same viewport dimensions.
- Check the image edges for clipped text, and confirm any content loaded after scrolling appears when a full-page capture is required.
- If the font appears wrong or absent, use DevTools to identify the rendered typeface, check font loading, and capture again after the intended font and content are available.
Troubleshoot incorrect or inconsistent text
Letters are missing or replaced by boxes
Check whether the required font files loaded and whether the page’s font-family stack has an available fallback with the relevant glyph coverage. Use DevTools to identify the actual rendered font rather than assuming the first CSS family was used.
Rank #4
The text appears in a different style or wraps differently
Check the page language information and the browser’s font selection for the relevant script. Then compare the operating system, installed fonts, browser build, and page font resources across machines; platform-specific font rendering can cause differences.
Text is blank or changes after capture
The capture may have happened while a web font was loading or before page-specific content appeared. Wait for the page’s font-loading state and required content, then capture again. A longer fixed timeout can help with slow pages, but it is not a substitute for checking readiness.
The screenshot stops before the end of the page
The basic Headless screenshot command is viewport-oriented. Use a capture method that explicitly supports full-page output and verify that lazy-loaded sections are present; increasing the viewport alone does not demonstrate that the entire document was captured.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A saved page does not preserve its appearance
Preserving a page’s visual appearance can require preserving font data. Chromium’s September 2022 Freeze Dried Tabs article describes storing fonts used by captured pages and subsetting them to reduce saved size. That is an architectural example, not a general-purpose screenshot guarantee.

ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; for this example, request a WebP capture of the target page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API options. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; these steps can each be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is available on every plan. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does `–window-size` make Chromium capture an entire long webpage?
No. It sets the viewport dimensions; use a method that explicitly supports full-page capture when you need the whole document in one image.
Does `–timeout` guarantee web fonts have loaded?
No. It bounds the wait, but page-specific font and content readiness must be checked separately.
