You can automate website screenshots with Make without buying a Make plan by connecting a screenshot app such as HTML/CSS to Image (HCTI) to a scenario, scheduling or triggering it, and sending the resulting image to a destination. “Free” has limits: Make’s Free plan allows up to 1,000 credits per month and a minimum 15-minute interval between scheduled runs, while HCTI’s separate Free plan lists 50 images per month. Check both allowances against your workflow before relying on it.
What you need before setting up the scenario
- A Make account. Make says new users are assigned a free account; its Free plan has no time limit. The current limits are listed on Make’s pricing page.
- An HCTI account for the screenshot module. HCTI lists URL screenshots among the Free plan capabilities, with 50 images per month and no card required: see HCTI pricing.
- The website URL you want to capture, plus an output destination such as a cloud-drive or messaging app available in your Make account.
Make’s app listings include URL screenshot actions, and HCTI documents its Make integration. Availability and module labels can change, so use the action shown in your account if its wording differs from the examples below. Make integrations

In Make, create a new scenario and add the HTML/CSS to Image app. Create its connection when prompted. HCTI’s Make connection requires the User ID and API Key shown in your HCTI dashboard; treat them as credentials and do not expose them in public scenario exports or screenshots. Add the URL screenshot action
Select Create a Screenshot of a URL and map or enter the page URL to capture. HCTI documents URL-based capture and options including viewport width, viewport height, and a rendering delay. These are configuration controls, not a guarantee that every site or dynamic element will render correctly. See HCTI API documentation.

Choose when the scenario runs
For recurring captures, configure the scenario schedule in Make. On the Free plan, the minimum interval between scheduled runs is 15 minutes. If you need to capture in response to an event rather than on a timer, use an appropriate available trigger, such as a webhook; whether it fits depends on how the event is produced. Make describes scheduling and scenario setup in its scenario documentation.

Send or save the result
Add a destination module for the storage or notification service you actually use, then map the image output from the screenshot action to the file or attachment input. The exact field names depend on the selected destination module. Make’s integration examples describe sending or saving screenshot results; verify the mapping in your own scenario.

Test and turn on the scenario
Run the scenario once and inspect the output before enabling the schedule. Confirm that the returned image is usable and reaches the selected destination. A test in your own account is especially important for pages requiring sign-in, consent interactions, or substantial rendering time.
Estimate both free allowances
Make credits and HCTI images are separate quotas. A screenshot workflow can run out of either one first, so estimate scenario operations as well as image volume.

For example, scheduling one capture every 15 minutes all month could request far more than HCTI’s 50-image monthly allowance. Actual usage depends on how often the scenario runs, whether it performs multiple operations per run, and how the screenshot module reports its consumption. Make’s Free plan supports low-volume automation, not unlimited captures or schedules more frequent than its stated minimum. Check usage in Make’s scenario runs and HCTI’s account or API usage information; HCTI documents plan-credit limits and usage responses in its API documentation.
Choose capture settings that fit the page
- Viewport: Set width and height when the page needs a particular desktop or mobile layout. A narrow viewport may trigger a different responsive design.
- Render delay: Increase the documented delay if the page needs time to render after navigation. A delay cannot guarantee success on every dynamic or slow page, and extra wait time can lengthen each run.
- Full-page needs: Confirm the action’s supported capture behavior for the page and desired output before relying on a whole-page image. The documented options establish URL screenshots and viewport sizing; do not assume unsupported controls are present in the Make module.
- Output routing: Choose a destination module that accepts the image output in a format it can store or deliver. Field mapping varies by app, so validate it with a test run.
Common problems and fixes
- The scenario cannot connect to HCTI: Recheck the User ID and API Key in the HCTI dashboard and recreate the connection if credentials changed. Do not paste credentials into public notes or exports.
- The scenario runs but no image arrives: Inspect the Make run details for the screenshot step’s output and the destination step’s input mapping. Confirm the destination module accepts the returned image data and that the scenario reaches it.
- The capture looks incomplete or shows the wrong layout: Review viewport dimensions and rendering delay. Page behavior can vary by URL, responsive breakpoints, scripts, and load time; test settings against the actual page.
- Captures stop or are limited: Check both Make credit consumption and HCTI image usage. Reaching either service’s allowance may constrain the workflow; reducing capture frequency or unnecessary operations can help preserve the remaining quota.
- You need a run more often than every 15 minutes: The Make Free schedule cannot meet that cadence. Consider a different trigger or service only if it meets the required timing and the relevant free or paid limits.

Is Make’s Free plan enough?
It can work for modest, scheduled screenshot workflows if your capture volume fits HCTI’s monthly image allowance and your scenario activity stays within Make’s credits. Calculate the number of runs and operations you need, then monitor both services; a free Make account does not make the connected screenshot service unlimited.
