The website being in India does not by itself mean the Lambda function must run in an Indian region: measure the actual target from candidate regions that meet your operational requirements.
Choose a Lambda browser approach
Lambda does not provide a general-purpose desktop browser. Your deployment must include Chromium and the automation library that controls it, with versions compatible with each other and the Lambda runtime.

There is no controlled speed comparison among these choices in the cited material. Evaluate runtime compatibility, browser/library version matching, artifact size, cold starts, execution time in your candidate regions, maintenance status and your team’s familiarity. Keep versions pinned and update them deliberately, including security fixes.
Build the capture flow
The example below shows the essential Puppeteer flow: receive a URL, launch the browser, wait for navigation, save a full-page PNG to S3, and close the browser even if capture fails. It assumes your container includes compatible versions of Puppeteer and Chromium and that the Lambda execution role can write to the destination bucket. For a deployable AWS packaging pattern, start with AWS’s Puppeteer-to-S3 architecture and update its historical dependencies for your chosen runtime.

};This is handler logic, not a complete container definition: the Chromium binary path, launch arguments, runtime interface and dependencies depend on the selected image and package. For container images, follow the current AWS image and runtime interface guidance. Grant the function’s execution role only the S3 permissions it needs, and configure the bucket’s access, retention and lifecycle policies for your workload.
Wait for the page you need
domcontentloaded means the initial document has been parsed; it does not guarantee that a single-page application, images, fonts or other asynchronous content is visually ready. Prefer an explicit selector or application-level readiness signal where possible. A bounded delay can help with known animation or delayed rendering, but should not substitute for a reliable signal on pages with variable load times. There is no universal wait condition that guarantees visual completion for every site.

Select viewport, element or full page
Playwright documents three useful capture scopes: the current viewport, a selected element, and the full scrollable page. See Playwright screenshot options. Choose the scope based on the output you need; full-page images may be very tall and consume more memory than viewport captures. Puppeteer offers analogous screenshot controls.
- Viewport: capture only what fits in the configured browser window.
- Element: capture a component after locating it with a selector.
- Full page: capture the full document, including content below the initial viewport. Lazy-loaded content may need scrolling or other explicit preparation before capture.
Pick and validate an AWS region
The available sources do not identify a best Lambda region for websites hosted in India, nor provide India-specific latency or success-rate comparisons. Do not assume that the website’s hosting location dictates the function’s region. Run the same authorized URL set from candidate regions that satisfy your account, data-handling and operational requirements.

- Choose candidate regions based on your organization’s availability and data requirements.
- Capture the same representative URLs repeatedly from each candidate, using the same browser build, viewport, wait logic and timeout.
- Compare end-to-end render time, completion rate and screenshot quality—not just network response time.
- Check behavior on the actual target pages. Authentication, bot defenses, geofencing, DNS, TLS and application behavior can all affect whether a capture succeeds.
Package, memory and cost considerations
Browser bundle and memory
A general Puppeteer install may not include a browser binary suitable for Lambda. Choose a Lambda-compatible Chromium build and test it with the matching automation library and runtime. The chrome-aws-lambda project says to allocate at least 512 MB of memory and recommends 1600 MB or more. That is project guidance, not an AWS minimum or a guarantee of performance for every page and browser version. Measure memory use and execution time with representative sites.
Image limits and upkeep
A container image lets you package browser dependencies alongside your function. AWS’s container image documentation describes supported image formats, a 10 GB uncompressed size ceiling and when a runtime interface client is required. Keep the image as small as practical, record the browser and library versions, and rebuild on a planned cadence so browser security updates are not missed.

Storage and AWS charges
S3 is the destination in AWS’s documented screenshot architecture. Set object names to avoid accidental overwrites, restrict access, and configure retention or lifecycle rules according to your use case; the cited sources do not prescribe a retention period. Repeated Lambda invocations, storage and any orchestration can incur charges beyond the Free Tier. Estimate the workload using current Lambda pricing and the relevant AWS service pricing before production.

- Browser executable not found: The deployment does not contain Chromium at the configured path, or the path differs from the package’s expected location. Include a compatible binary and set the executable path for that image.
- Browser fails to launch: The browser build, automation library, runtime or system dependencies may not match. Check the package’s current compatibility guidance, inspect launch errors in logs, and test the built artifact in an environment representative of Lambda.
- Navigation times out: The target may be slow, blocked, waiting on long-lived network activity or inaccessible from that region. Use a suitable bounded timeout and readiness condition; verify DNS, TLS, authentication and target authorization.
- Screenshot is blank or incomplete: The page may not have finished rendering, or content may appear only after scrolling or interaction. Wait for a meaningful selector or application state and prepare lazy-loaded content before capture.
- S3 write is denied: Check the Lambda execution role’s permissions, bucket name, region configuration and any bucket policy restrictions.
- Images differ between runs: Rendering can vary with operating system, browser version, settings, hardware and rendering environment. Keep these consistent when comparing screenshots over time. See Playwright’s screenshot documentation.
