If a webpage screenshot stops at the visible screen instead of showing content farther down, switch from a viewport capture to a full-page capture. In Playwright, use fullPage: true in JavaScript or full_page=True in Python. If the bottom is still missing, check whether the content loads only after scrolling, whether the screenshot is limited to an element or clip region, and whether the page or an inner panel is the actual scroll container.
Use a full-page screenshot instead of a viewport capture
A viewport screenshot records the browser’s current visible area. A full-page screenshot is a different capture mode intended to include the scrollable document. Playwright’s guide describes it as capturing the full scrollable page: Playwright Screenshots guide.
JavaScript
With Playwright’s JavaScript API, set fullPage: true in the screenshot options. This runnable example opens a page, captures it, and closes the browser:

If your page continues loading or updating after navigation, wait for the specific content you need before calling screenshot; a completed navigation alone does not establish that every site-specific asynchronous section is ready. In Python, the equivalent option is named full_page:

If you are using a browser’s built-in capture feature, choose its whole-page or full-page mode rather than the ordinary viewport capture, if that option is available. Menu names and steps vary by browser, platform, and version, so follow the current documentation for your browser rather than assuming one universal path.

If the screenshot still cuts off the bottom
1. Make scroll-triggered content appear
Some sites load images, cards, or other sections only after a scroll event or when the content approaches the visible area. A full-page capture does not necessarily cause those site scripts to run as if a person had scrolled. A Playwright feature request describes this as a possible limitation in some capture paths; it is an issue report, not a guarantee that every browser, site, or Playwright release behaves this way: Playwright issue #40941.
Scroll through the page in a normal browser and see whether the missing section appears. In automation, scroll in steps, allow the page to settle, and then capture. For a page whose content is gated by scrolling, the sequence can look like this:

await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true });The delay is an example, not a universal readiness threshold. Adjust it to the page, or wait for a selector that identifies the content you need. Reopen the resulting file to confirm the content actually appeared.

2. Check the capture scope
Confirm that the screenshot call is not intentionally limited to a smaller region. Playwright supports full-page capture, element screenshots, and a clip rectangle; an element capture or clip can exclude content outside its target. The API documents these controls at Page API. Playwright’s screenshot tool documentation also distinguishes capture targets and options: Playwright MCP screenshots.
If you intended to capture a specific element, check that the locator identifies the right element and that the element itself contains the full content. If you intended the whole document, remove or revise any element target or clip rectangle that narrows the screenshot.

A page can contain an inner panel with its own scrollbar. In that case, scrolling the document may not reveal the content inside the panel, and a full-page screenshot of the document may not represent the panel’s full scrollable contents as you expect. Determine whether the document or the nested panel is the intended capture target, then scroll or capture that region using the controls available in your framework.

4. Inspect the saved image
Open or preview the output and check for the intended bottom edge, missing sections, blank areas, or repeated content. If the page changed while loading, adjust the wait or scrolling sequence and capture again. Playwright’s screenshot options control how a capture is taken; they do not promise that every site-specific asynchronous element has finished rendering when the call runs.
Choose the capture scope that matches the job

Playwright also documents screenshot scale choices in CSS or device pixels. Device-pixel scaling can produce larger image files on high-DPI displays, so consider the required sharpness and output size when choosing scale. Consult the Page API for the options supported by your version.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does full-page capture guarantee that lazy-loaded images will appear?
No. A site may wait for scrolling before loading or revealing content, so verify the saved screenshot and scroll the page before capture when needed.
Why does a screenshot show only part of a page even with full-page enabled?
The capture may be limited by an element target or clip rectangle, the content may not have rendered, or the relevant scrollbar may belong to an inner panel rather than the document.
