For a pitch deck, capture the page view that supports your point: a desktop or mobile viewport for the first impression, a full-page image for page flow, or a selected area or element for a specific detail. Use Chrome DevTools for manual captures, label simulated mobile views clearly, and keep the source URL and capture date with each image. Before including another company’s website, check its terms and the rights notices for embedded material; public visibility alone does not establish permission to reuse it.
Choose the pages and views your pitch needs
Start with the evidence the proposal actually needs. A homepage may establish the overall experience, while a product or service page, contact path, or form may support a more specific observation. Avoid capturing pages simply to fill slides.
- Overview: capture the initial viewport to show the first screen and visual hierarchy.
- Page flow: capture the full page when the point depends on content beyond the first screen.
- Specific detail: capture an area or selected element when a navigation item, form, call to action, or other feature is the focus.
- Mobile presentation: capture a mobile-sized viewport separately from desktop, and identify it as simulated if it was captured in a desktop browser.
If you are showing a current site alongside a proposed redesign, keep the current-site capture distinct from agency mockups. A reader should be able to tell what exists on the live page and what your team is proposing.
Capture screenshots with Chrome DevTools
Chrome DevTools offers viewport, full-page, area, and selected-node screenshot options. The exact labels may change with Chrome updates, so use the Command Menu when you cannot find a command in a menu. Chrome describes Device Mode as a first-order approximation of a mobile experience; it simulates a device from a desktop computer and is not equivalent to checking the page on a physical phone. Capture a visible viewport or full page
- Open the target page in Chrome.
- Open DevTools and turn on Device Mode using the device toolbar control, or use the DevTools Command Menu and search for device mode.
- Set the desired viewport dimensions. For desktop, use a consistent width and height; for mobile, choose a device preset or enter a responsive width and height.
- To capture the visible screen, open the Command Menu, type “screenshot,” and choose the viewport screenshot command.
- For a long page, choose Capture a full size screenshot from the screenshot commands. Review the output to confirm that the page loaded fully and that lazy-loaded sections appear as intended.
Capture an area or a particular element
- Open the DevTools Command Menu and type “screenshot.”
- Choose Capture area screenshot, then drag across the region you need. This command does not work when DevTools is undocked.
- To capture a specific page element instead, select it in the Elements panel, open the Command Menu, and choose Capture node screenshot.
These options are useful when a full-page image would make the relevant detail too small on a slide. Leave enough surrounding context to make the captured component understandable.
Capture a mobile-sized view
- Turn on Device Mode and select a named device or enter responsive dimensions.
- Check the layout at the intended width, including menus, text wrapping, and visible calls to action.
- Capture the viewport using the screenshot command.
- Caption it as a mobile simulation, with its width in CSS pixels, unless it was captured on a physical handset.
Chrome’s documentation lists preset widths from 320 CSS pixels upward and cautions that simulation is not the same as testing on a real device. If your proposal makes a device-specific claim—such as a touch interaction or behavior dependent on a particular handset—inspect the site on that handset rather than treating Device Mode as proof.
Make the captures comparable and slide-ready
For a before-and-after comparison or a set of competing page examples, control the variables that change what appears: URL, capture date, viewport dimensions, browser zoom, scroll position, and relevant page state. Use the same settings for each comparable capture where possible.

- Caption each image with its page URL, date, viewport width, and capture type.
- For mobile, say whether the view is simulated or from a physical device.
- Preserve enough page context to identify the page and interaction.
- Crop to direct attention, but do not edit page content so the image suggests a feature or state that was not present.
- Keep the source URL and capture date in the slide caption or speaker notes when appropriate.

Automate repeated captures with Chrome Headless
For a recurring capture set, Chrome Headless can save screenshots from the command line. Its documentation shows the --screenshot and --window-size options. This example captures a mobile-sized viewport; it does not, by itself, guarantee a full-page image or an exact physical-phone rendering.

Check that the command is using the intended Chrome version and that the resulting file contains the expected page state and loaded assets before placing it in a client deck. Page timing, consent dialogs, and dynamic content can make automated output differ from what a person sees during a manual visit. Chrome’s command-line screenshot documentation is at Chrome Headless.
Can you use another company’s website screenshots in a pitch deck in India?
Do not assume that a publicly viewable page, or a screenshot of it, is automatically cleared for reuse. A website may combine text, software, photographs, graphics, music, and other works with different rights holders. Review the website’s terms and rights notices, and obtain permission when required. The specific legal treatment can depend on the material, purpose, terms, and how the deck will be distributed; this guide does not determine fair dealing or resolve a particular legal dispute. For high-stakes or contested use, consult qualified counsel.
India’s Presentation Gov portal says its own material may be reproduced after proper permission, should be reproduced accurately, not used in a derogatory or misleading context, and should be acknowledged prominently. Its terms also exclude third-party-copyright material unless permission is obtained from the relevant rights holder. A screenshot can document how a page looks at a particular viewport, but it cannot establish all aspects of accessibility or behavior.
