You can livestream prerecorded video to YouTube without keeping a local PC running, but the file storage itself is not enough: a cloud service or cloud-hosted encoder must read the video, send it as a live feed, and reconnect to YouTube when needed. For the simplest setup, use a managed cloud relay such as StreamNeo; for a self-managed workflow, run an encoder in cloud compute and connect it to YouTube Live Control Room.
What a cloud livestream relay does
A video in Google Drive, S3, or another storage service is an on-demand asset, not a live broadcast. A relay needs a process that can access the file, play or loop it, encode or package the output as a live feed, and send that feed to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint. AWS’s CloudFront documentation distinguishes stored video-on-demand assets from live encoding and distribution; storage or a CDN alone does not publish a YouTube livestream. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for continuous prerecorded streams. Gyre says its files sit in Gyre Storage and the stream originates from its servers rather than the user’s computer or home connection; that is the vendor’s description of its service, not independent performance testing. Before choosing any relay, verify that it can access your actual file location, accepts your container and codecs, supports the playlist or schedule you need, exposes stream health, handles dropped connections, protects credentials, and fits your stream-duration and archive needs. Do not assume a service supports a particular drive or bucket unless its current documentation says so.

Set up YouTube Live and create the broadcast
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. YouTube says first-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete activation before your planned start.
- Create or schedule the event. In Live Control Room, use the Stream or Manage tab. Scheduling creates a planned event and a shareable watch page. Choose visibility deliberately: public, unlisted, or private according to your audience and promotion plan.
- Copy the connection details for this broadcast. For an encoder-based setup, copy the server URL and stream key displayed in Live Control Room into the encoder’s destination settings. The stream key is a publishing credential: keep it private, do not paste it into public messages, and replace it if exposed.
- Use the exact ingestion endpoint YouTube provides. If configuring a secure RTMPS destination manually, Google describes RTMPS as RTMP over SSL and specifies port 443. Use the endpoint and path shown for the broadcast rather than copying a sample endpoint or another stream’s key. Google’s RTMPS connection guide.
Run the relay from the cloud
Managed service workflow
- Select a service that explicitly supports YouTube prerecorded livestreaming and confirm its current import method, supported file formats, storage limits, and scheduling controls.
- Upload or select the video files and arrange the playback order or playlist. Check that you have rights to stream every video and its audio.
- Connect the service to YouTube using its account authorization option, if offered, or enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key as a password.
- Start the relay. For a scheduled encoder stream, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then select Go live. Confirm that YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream before leaving it unattended.
Self-managed cloud encoder workflow
- Provision a cloud compute instance or service that remains available for the broadcast and can read the media from its storage location. Storage alone cannot perform this step.
- Install and configure a playback/encoding process to read the files, loop or schedule them, and output a live stream compatible with YouTube. The exact encoder and settings depend on your media and implementation; the cited YouTube setup flow requires the destination server URL and stream key.
- Store the stream key in a secret manager or protected environment configuration, not in source code, a public script, or a shared log. Restrict access to the process and rotate the key if it is exposed.
- Configure the encoder to send to the exact YouTube endpoint and path for the broadcast. For RTMPS, use the secure endpoint YouTube supplies; Google specifies port 443 for RTMPS.
- Start the encoder, check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room, and select Go live when the scheduled encoder stream is ready.
- Monitor the cloud process, outbound connection, and YouTube stream health. Build restart and alert behavior into a self-managed system; a video file does not restart a failed encoder by itself.

Verify playback, duration, and archiving
For scheduled encoder streams, YouTube’s workflow is to wait for the preview, then click Go live in Live Control Room. Check stream health before promoting the watch page or leaving the broadcast unattended. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same automatic archive behavior for a stream that runs 12 hours or longer. YouTube’s encoder guide.

When you are ready to end the broadcast, stop the cloud playback or encoder from sending content and end the stream in Live Control Room as applicable. For a long-running channel, consider how you will handle a scheduled restart or a playlist change without accidentally publishing the wrong event.
Copyright, reused content, and channel risk
Only stream video and audio you own or are licensed to broadcast on YouTube. A cloud relay does not change copyright obligations: a recording that is permissible to watch privately may still trigger a Content ID claim, block, or takedown when streamed publicly. Keep license records and check that permissions cover livestreaming, the territories you serve, and any music embedded in the recording.

Permission to use a video does not by itself guarantee YouTube Partner Program eligibility. A channel built around repetitive or minimally transformed uploads may face reused-content or monetization review even when the uploader has permission. Add genuine original value where appropriate, and review YouTube’s current monetization and live-stream policies before relying on a relay as a revenue strategy.
Troubleshooting a cloud-to-YouTube relay

Plan the cost and operational responsibility
A managed service trades infrastructure work for a recurring service cost. A self-managed encoder may require cloud compute, storage access, outbound bandwidth, monitoring, and engineering time; estimate the full run cost for the expected schedule rather than treating the storage bill as the total. A hardware encoder avoids an always-on PC but adds a device purchase and local network dependency. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I livestream directly from Google Drive or S3 to YouTube?
No. The file needs a relay or encoder to turn it into a live feed and send it to YouTube.
