A 24/7 YouTube livestream uses about 10.8 GB per day for every 1 Mbps of sustained video bitrate, or about 324 GB per 30-day month, before network overhead. At 10 Mbps, that works out to about 108 GB a day and 3.24 TB a month. These are estimates of the creator’s outgoing stream—not viewers’ playback data—and your broadband bill is generally based on your local plan, not a per-GB charge.
How to estimate a 24/7 stream’s data use
For a constant bitrate, multiply the bitrate in megabits per second (Mbps) by the stream duration. Converting bits to bytes gives these convenient decimal-GB estimates:
- GB per hour: bitrate in Mbps × 0.45
- GB per day: bitrate in Mbps × 10.8
- GB per 30-day month: bitrate in Mbps × 324
The calculation assumes the stream runs continuously at the stated bitrate. It estimates encoded stream payload in decimal gigabytes, before protocol overhead, bitrate variation, reconnects, or other household internet use. It is arithmetic, not a measurement from an ISP usage meter.
Examples using YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrates
YouTube lists the following recommended settings for these H.264 resolutions and frame rates. The usage figures below are calculated from those bitrate values, not usage measurements published by YouTube. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate.

Your actual total can differ if bitrate changes, the stream is interrupted and reconnects, or other devices use the same connection. The examples count the creator’s outbound feed to YouTube; each viewer’s playback is separate data delivered to that viewer.
What broadband might cost in India
There is no single India-wide broadband price: availability, taxes, plan terms, and usable upload speeds depend on locality and provider. The following are examples on provider pages, not quotes for every location.

These monthly charges are not data prices per gigabyte. Before choosing a plan for continuous streaming, confirm the exact tariff’s fair-use or commercial-use threshold, any speed reduction after that threshold, applicable taxes, locality availability, installation or equipment charges, and whether the advertised speed is upload or download. “Unlimited” on a plan page alone does not establish that every tariff has no restrictions.

Check upload capacity and stability
A plan’s download speed does not tell you whether it can sustain a livestream. YouTube says the stream’s total bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. It also notes that download speed is often higher than outbound speed. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Work out a basic upload target
For a 10 Mbps stream, applying YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance gives a basic minimum of 12 Mbps available upload. A shared or variable connection may need more margin to stay stable. Test outbound speed rather than relying on a download-speed result, and try the stream under representative conditions.
Choose encoder settings for the actual stream
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and supports RTMPS among its protocol options. Its bitrate recommendations depend on the codec, resolution, and frame rate; the example bitrates in this article are not mandatory settings for every stream. Keep a 24/7 YouTube stream running
A continuous stream requires a source and connection that remain available. YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that guidance does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will be archived as one complete video or run indefinitely without interruption. Run it from your own setup
With an encoder on a computer, configure the resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and stream protocol, connect the YouTube stream key, and start the broadcast. Keep the computer, encoder, and internet connection operating for as long as the stream should remain live. FAQ
Does a 24/7 stream use data when nobody is watching?
The creator’s feed is sent to YouTube while it is live, regardless of whether a particular viewer is watching. Viewer playback uses separate downstream data.
Is 108 Mbps broadband enough for a 10 Mbps stream?
The plan’s headline speed alone does not answer that. Check its actual upload speed and sustained stability; YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance implies at least 12 Mbps available upload for a 10 Mbps stream.
Will a plan marked unlimited definitely allow continuous streaming?
Not necessarily. Check the tariff’s specific fair-use and commercial-use terms, including whether speeds change after a threshold.
