To capture a Google Maps local pack screenshot for local SEO in India, search the same business category and locality, preserve the unaltered results page, and record the query, area, device, viewport, date, and time with the image. The screenshot documents one search in one context; it does not prove a universal or guaranteed ranking.
What a local pack screenshot can—and cannot—show
A screenshot is a point-in-time record of the businesses shown for a particular query and search context. Results may differ with the search area, device, interface, or time, so label the evidence rather than presenting it as a fixed position seen by everyone in India. Google says agencies and others cannot promise prominent placement on Search, Street View, or Maps (Google guidance on third-party representation).
Keep local pack results distinct from Street View imagery. Street View shows what cameras saw when they passed a place, and the imagery may be months or years old after processing; it is not a live view of a business or a local pack (Street View policy).
How do I screenshot the Google Maps 3-pack?
1. Define the search context
Before searching, note the exact query, target locality or search area, device, intended viewport, and capture date and time. For example, record the search phrase and locality together rather than writing only “near me.” Use the same setup for later comparisons.

2. Search in the interface you want to document
Open Google Search or Google Maps on the device and at the viewport you intend to document. Search the same phrase and locality each time. The pack may appear differently in Search and Maps, so record which interface you used.
3. Frame and save the evidence
If the local pack is visible, include enough of the page to show the query and the businesses and positions being recorded. Save a direct, unaltered screenshot. Keep the original file and store the context alongside it, in a filename or separate notes:

4. Caption it as a snapshot
Use a caption that identifies the query and observation context. For a before-and-after comparison, repeat the same setup and state any differences. If the device, viewport, interface, locality, or time differs, describe that change rather than presenting it as a controlled ranking change.
How can I track my Google Maps ranking in India?
Use repeatable snapshots, not a single image treated as a national ranking. Compare records only when the exact query, search area, device and viewport, interface, and capture time are reasonably comparable. Local results are observations from those conditions, not a promise that other people across India see the same businesses in the same order.

Google explicitly says prominent placement on Search, Street View, or Maps cannot be guaranteed (Google guidance). A screenshot can support a report about what appeared in a documented search; it cannot establish that a business will keep that position.
Keep the screenshot realistic and review usage rights
Google’s Search screenshot guidance says: “Don’t alter the way the interface looks, and don’t manufacture, remove, or alter auto-suggest terms or search results.” It also says Search should be supplemental and its use should not imply endorsement or an affiliation that does not exist. For promotional material, the user is responsible for obtaining third-party approvals for content shown in screenshots. The guidance says permission is not required for print screenshots of Google Search pages and results used for educational or instructional purposes; do not extend that statement to every commercial, web, or promotional use (Google Search Guidelines).

Google’s broader brand guidance says Google Maps, Google Earth, and Street View use must follow its Geo Guidelines. It permits unaltered static screenshots or video captures for educational purposes in textbooks or other standard teaching materials. Check the live guidance for the intended placement and medium (Google Brand Resource Center).
Where a capture includes third-party imagery, remember that Google’s Business Profile media policy places responsibility for legal and regulatory compliance on people posting imagery, and Google Maps community guidance says contributed photos should be relevant and in focus and warns against copyright-infringing images. These reminders do not replace a rights review for your particular use (Business Profile media policy; Google Maps photo policies).

India context: Street View is not a local-pack measurement
Google announced the India launch of Street View on 27 July 2022, naming Genesys International and Tech Mahindra as local partners and describing availability in selected cities at launch. That dated announcement is historical context, not confirmation of current Street View coverage in every Indian locality (Google’s 27 July 2022 announcement). Street View imagery and a live Search or Maps local pack answer different questions; do not use one as evidence for the other.
