There is no single AAC flag that fixes every FFmpeg error in a looping meditation stream. First identify whether the failure is an AAC encoder/configuration problem, a timestamp problem at the loop boundary, or a stream YouTube cannot ingest. Then test a short representative loop against YouTube’s encoder recommendations before running it continuously.
Start with the error, command, and source details
Before changing settings, collect the evidence needed to distinguish an audio-encoding failure from a timing or ingest problem. The exact FFmpeg command, complete log from startup through failure, FFmpeg version/build, and source-stream details are not available here, so no particular command or AAC option can be prescribed as a verified fix.
- Run
ffmpeg -versionand save the output. - Copy the exact FFmpeg command and redact the YouTube stream key before sharing it. Treat that key as a password; do not publish it in a log, screenshot, or support post.
- Capture the full FFmpeg output, including the lines before the first warning or error.
- Inspect the source with
ffprobeand note its audio codec, sample rate, channel layout, duration, and whether it has video. Check the repeat point as well as the start. - Record what YouTube Live Control Room reports for stream health at the same time the issue occurs.
These details matter because messages that mention AAC and messages that mention timestamps can have different causes. For example, a 2020 FFmpeg-user discussion included “Non-monotonous DTS in output stream” and “Queue input is backward in time”; those are examples from one case, not evidence that every looping-stream problem has the same cause. In that discussion, a contributor suggested trying a newer FFmpeg build after seeing an old build, but also cautioned that his test did not reproduce the original real-world input. Read the FFmpeg-user discussion.
Classify the failure before changing settings
AAC encoder initialization or configuration error
If FFmpeg fails as it initializes the audio encoder, inspect the input audio format and the output audio options: codec, sample rate, and channel count. FFmpeg documents aac as its native AAC encoder and provides output controls such as -c:a, -ar, and -ac. Those controls can help establish a known output format, but the right values depend on the source and the exact error. FFmpeg documentation.

Timestamp warnings or errors
Warnings about non-monotonic DTS or time moving backward point to timestamps, not necessarily to a defective AAC encoder. Look for discontinuities in the source and at the repeat boundary; also check whether audio and video durations or time bases diverge. Do not treat a timestamp warning from a forum example as interchangeable with an encoder setup failure.
FFmpeg runs but YouTube rejects or degrades the stream
If FFmpeg continues sending output, check YouTube’s Live Control Room stream-health messages and compare the outgoing stream with YouTube’s current ingest guidance. A stream can have an FFmpeg warning without a confirmed ingest failure, and the warning alone does not establish that the audio is corrupt.

Check the source and the loop boundary
Determine whether the loop repeats one file or concatenates several. For a single file, inspect whether timestamps remain continuous when playback returns to the beginning. For a playlist assembled with FFmpeg’s concat demuxer, verify that the files use compatible streams, codecs, and time bases. If they differ, normalize or transcode the segments to matching properties before concatenating them. This compatibility check applies to concat-demuxer workflows; do not assume that a stream uses one just because it loops. See the FFmpeg-user discussion of concat compatibility.
When possible, compare a short sample that includes the transition between clips or the repeat point. If an error appears only there, focus on timing, duration alignment, and input compatibility. If it occurs immediately during encoder setup, focus first on the FFmpeg build and audio parameters.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. - TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Use YouTube’s live settings as a diagnostic baseline
YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as accepted audio codecs for RTMP/RTMPS live ingest. For stereo audio, its guidance recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kb/s, with constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. These are YouTube recommendations, not proof that any deviation caused a particular error. Check the current guidance before broadcast because platform requirements can change. YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
FFmpeg’s audio codec, sample-rate, and channel-count options let you set output parameters explicitly when the source format or timestamps are unsuitable. Avoid copying AAC from a problematic input as a default fix. If practical, test stream-copy and re-encoding on the same short sample and compare the resulting FFmpeg log and YouTube stream health. Neither approach is universally better: the result depends on source compatibility, timing, and whether the output needs a different channel or sample-rate configuration. FFmpeg documentation.

Run a short test, then isolate the cause
- Choose a representative test segment with audio and movement similar to the planned meditation stream, including the loop transition if possible.
- Send it to a private or unlisted YouTube live test as appropriate for your channel setup, and watch both FFmpeg output and the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages.
- Change one variable at a time: first the output audio format, then the loop or concatenation behavior, rather than changing several encoder settings together.
- If the failure coincides with a repeat boundary, test the source segments for timestamp continuity and compatibility. If it begins during AAC initialization, test the audio codec and output parameters instead.
- Only after the short test is stable should you leave the stream running continuously.
YouTube specifically advises testing with audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast and monitoring stream health during the event. YouTube live encoder guidance.

| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| AAC encoder fails during setup | FFmpeg build, source audio format, and output codec, sample rate, or channel count | Capture the full error; set a deliberate output audio format using FFmpeg’s documented options and test a short sample. |
| “Non-monotonous DTS” or time moving backward | Timestamp continuity, especially at the repeat point or between concatenated files | Test the boundary separately; check durations and time bases, and normalize incompatible concat inputs. |
| FFmpeg emits output but YouTube reports a stream issue | Ingest protocol, supported audio codec, recommended stereo parameters, keyframe interval, and Live Control Room health | Compare the output with YouTube’s current guidance and run a representative preflight test. |
| The issue persists on an older FFmpeg build | Version/build output and whether a newer build changes the result | Try a current build as a diagnostic check, not as a guaranteed fix; the cited 2020 case did not reproduce the original input. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded meditation videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than diagnose and maintain an FFmpeg setup, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
