For a simple 24/7 fireplace relaxation stream, build one OBS scene around a local video in a Media Source, enable Loop, and fit it to the canvas. Start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and YouTube’s 14 Mbps video target; test that bitrate against your sustained upload speed and encoder before leaving the stream running. These are starting settings, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
Build a minimal fireplace scene in OBS
Use a Media Source for one video
- Create a scene for the broadcast and add a Media Source.
- Select the local fireplace video and enable Loop in the source properties.
- Fit the source to the canvas, then inspect the preview for cropping, borders, or stretched proportions. OBS lets you position, size, and crop sources; keep the source arrangement simple so no unintended overlay obscures the picture.
Listen through the video’s end and beginning to check that the loop seam does not create an abrupt audio cut or spike. Check OBS audio meters and remove unintended desktop audio.
Use VLC Video only for a playlist
If the stream should rotate among multiple clips, add a VLC Video source and confirm the playlist order and looping behavior. VLC must be installed for this source type to appear in OBS. OBS documents Loop Playlist as enabled by default. For a single video, a Media Source is the more direct setup.
Set output video and audio for YouTube Live
Choose resolution and frame rate
Set the OBS canvas and output to the dimensions you intend to stream. For a low-motion fireplace scene, 1080p at 30 fps is a practical initial choice. YouTube’s bitrate table lists 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. A 60 fps output can look smoother when the source has meaningful motion, but OBS notes that 60 fps can be more demanding than 30 fps; use it only if your system can sustain it.

YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists 17 Mbps at 1080p60. These are recommended targets, not guaranteed minimums or proof that your connection can hold the stream. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance at YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Configure encoder, bitrate, and keyframes
- Video encoder: H.264 is a broadly documented starting point for RTMP/RTMPS. YouTube also lists HEVC and AV1 compatibility, but which options you can use depends on your machine and ingest setup.
- Rate control: Choose CBR for the documented RTMP/RTMPS starting configuration.
- Video bitrate: Start at 14 Mbps for H.264 1080p30 or 17 Mbps for H.264 1080p60, then test. If the connection or encoder cannot sustain the selected output, reduce the demand rather than assuming the recommended target will work on every setup.
- Keyframe interval: Set 2 seconds. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Run one before the broadcast and validate the actual stream, since a speed test alone cannot establish that a connection will remain stable continuously.

Set and check audio
YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. The exact fireplace mix depends on the source file. Listen for silence, clipping, unwanted desktop sound, and a noticeable change at the loop point.
Use a stable ingest connection and configure reconnect
YouTube recommends RTMPS and testing upload speed. OBS’s help explains that increasing dropped frames indicate the connection cannot keep up with the configured bitrate or is unstable. Wired networking is a reasonable production choice where practical, but it is not a requirement established by the cited platform guidance.

OBS identifies automatic reconnect as an advanced setting. Confirm it is enabled and choose retry behavior suitable for your system and connection; there is no single retry value established as best for every setup.
Test the stream before leaving it live
- Start a private or otherwise non-public test using representative fireplace motion and sound. YouTube recommends testing with the content you plan to broadcast.
- While the test is live, inspect YouTube stream health and any messages it displays.
- Verify that the video loops cleanly, the audio remains intentional at the seam, and OBS meters show only the sound you want.
- Watch for dropped frames. If they rise, reduce output demands or address connection instability before relying on the stream.
- For a true 24/7 setup, the computer, OBS, video file, and network all need to remain available. This workflow does not itself provide a guaranteed uptime mechanism.
Keep copyright and replay expectations in view
Use a fireplace video and audio that you have the right to stream on YouTube. A video being available online does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s live encoder guidance covers technical setup, not a license for source footage or music.

Do not assume that a stream lasting 24 hours or longer will be archived or replayed in a particular way. YouTube’s current archive behavior for that case is not established here, so check the platform’s current policy if preserving a replay matters.
DIY operation or cloud operation
