Check the screenshot call
A plain page.screenshot() captures the current viewport because fullPage defaults to false. Set it explicitly to true when you want the full scrollable page:

Check for an explicit clip
The clip option sets an output rectangle using x, y, width, and height. If your screenshot call includes it, confirm those bounds cover the area you mean to capture. Remove clip if you want the full-page extent rather than a specific rectangle; do not assume that enabling fullPage makes an unintended clip match your goal.
Make sure you are capturing the page, not an element
An element screenshot is bounded by the element’s size and position, not by the whole page. For a scrollable element, Playwright documents that only the content currently scrolled into view appears in its screenshot. Use page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }) for the page-level capture, or keep the element screenshot if the element itself is the intended target. See the ElementHandle API.

Do not confuse scale with page extent
The scale setting controls pixel density, not how much of the page is captured. scale: 'css' produces one image pixel per CSS pixel; scale: 'device' produces device pixels and can create a larger high-DPI image. Neither setting replaces fullPage: true.
Use the same option for screenshot assertions
If the clipping occurs in a visual assertion rather than a saved screenshot, request the full page on the assertion too:

await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot({ fullPage: true });Playwright’s PageAssertions API says the assertion waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing them. That wait does not change which area you requested: include fullPage: true when the assertion should cover the full scrollable page.
Troubleshoot remaining clipping
- Only the visible screen appears: check that the call is page-level and includes
fullPage: true. - The image ends at a particular rectangle: inspect
clipand verify its coordinates and dimensions, or remove it if you do not intend to constrain the output. - Only part of a component appears: confirm whether the call is an element screenshot. For a scrollable element, the captured content depends on its current scroll position.
- The image is larger or smaller than expected in pixels: inspect
scale; it affects pixel density, not documented page extent. - Full-page capture is enabled, but content is still absent: inspect the page structure and the exact screenshot call. The documented behavior does not provide a universal fix for every nested scroll container or for content that changes during capture.
For visual comparisons, keep the rendering environment consistent. Playwright notes that screenshots can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode, and advises using the environment that created the baseline. See Visual comparisons.
