There is no single fix for Hindi text that looks wrong in an MCP website screenshot: first compare the screenshot with the same page in the browser, then check the font actually used and whether Devanagari shaping is working. If the live page is correct but the capture is not, investigate font loading and capture timing in the MCP workflow.
Identify what “incorrectly” means
The visible symptom helps narrow the cause. Note whether you see missing-glyph boxes, blank characters, an unexpected fallback typeface, poorly composed conjuncts or vowel marks, clipped text or odd line breaks, or a screenshot that differs from the browser page. These symptoms can point to different issues; none by itself identifies a universal MCP or browser fault.
For a useful diagnosis, record the MCP server, browser and version, operating system, page URL, and a short Hindi sample that demonstrates the problem. Also note whether the same text looks wrong when you open the page directly in that browser.
Compare the page with the MCP screenshot
- Open the same URL in the browser used for capture. Compare the affected text and surrounding layout with the MCP screenshot.
- If both views are wrong, start with the site’s CSS, font delivery, available fonts, and browser or operating-system rendering.
- If only the MCP screenshot is wrong, focus on the automation and capture path. Check that the intended web font has loaded before the screenshot is taken, and compare captures taken after the page is ready.
Playwright MCP documents accessibility snapshots as a way to inspect structured page content and screenshots as a way to inspect visual context. They are distinct inspection methods, so a structured snapshot can help confirm text content while the image reveals how it was rendered. Verify which font rendered the Hindi text
A CSS font-family declaration is a preference list, not a guarantee that the first named font rendered every character. If that font lacks a required glyph—or is unavailable or has not loaded—the browser can use a later family in the stack. That fallback may have different appearance or incomplete character coverage.
- In Chrome, inspect the affected element with DevTools and check the typeface reported for the rendered text. Chrome’s DevTools font inspection guide explains how to identify the font used by Chrome’s text-rendering layer.
- Check the CSS family names for spelling errors and confirm the intended font is available to the browser. For web fonts, verify that the font file is delivered and loaded successfully.
- Check the relevant weight and style as well as the family name. A page may request a weight for which the expected font file is not available.

Putting the script-specific Noto Sans Devanagari family first prioritizes it for Hindi; the main Noto Sans family can cover characters such as punctuation and digits. Choose styles and weights that match the design, and make sure the fonts are actually delivered to the browser. This is a practical starting point, not a requirement to use Noto or a guarantee that every rendering problem will be fixed. See Noto’s guidance on using Noto fonts on the web.

Check shaping when glyphs are present but composed badly
If the characters appear but conjuncts or vowel marks are arranged incorrectly, a missing font glyph may not be the cause. Devanagari requires shaping rules that select and position glyph forms according to the script. Noto’s documentation says, “The shaping rules enable complex text layout: accurate, orthographically correct rendering of that script.”
- Confirm the page contains the intended Unicode text rather than visually similar or corrupted characters.
- Compare the same text in another current browser or rendering environment to see whether the behavior changes.
- If the font contains the needed glyphs but composition remains wrong, investigate the rendering environment and its complex-script shaping support rather than assuming a font swap will fix it.
The W3C Devanagari Script Resources are intended for implementers working on web standards and technologies and provide background for deeper investigation. Historical Chromium reports show that Hindi rendering issues have been reported in the past, but they do not establish a defect in a current browser or diagnose a particular MCP setup: historical report and another historical report.

Use general text troubleshooting only for matching symptoms
Chrome Help has general advice for text that is missing or appears fuzzy, including ClearType steps for Windows. That guidance may be relevant to those symptoms, but it is not a demonstrated fix for malformed Devanagari shaping or a screenshot captured before a web font loads.
