The loop can run indefinitely, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: your computer, network, FFmpeg process, YouTube connection, account status, and content rights all matter.
Before you begin
- Check live eligibility: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm rights: Make sure you have permission to stream the specific recording, artwork, and every other asset in the broadcast. A devotional or traditional subject does not automatically make a particular recording free to use.
- Prepare the source: Have the audio or video file available locally and test that it plays through its full duration. For continuous playback, plan how you will monitor the computer and connection.
- Install FFmpeg: Use a build that supports your chosen output codecs and RTMPS. Available encoders vary by build, so check your installed FFmpeg rather than assuming every codec is available.
Create a YouTube Live encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, selecting the encoder workflow.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key private; do not put it in a public tutorial, repository, screenshot, or shared script.
- Choose RTMPS if your FFmpeg build supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection to its ingest server. Its encoder setup instructions are at YouTube’s encoder live-streaming guide.
Choose compatible output settings
YouTube’s published encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrates and match the row to your actual codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- Resolution and frame rate: Pick a format your computer and stable upstream connection can sustain. A still image with devotional audio usually needs less video complexity than a motion-heavy source, but audio quality and reliable delivery still matter.
- Bitrate: Use YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the selected codec and output format; do not treat one bitrate as universal. Leave capacity for normal variation in your upload connection.
- Audio: Confirm that the selected audio stream is present, intelligible, and not clipping. Use AAC or MP3 as supported by your output configuration.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where possible and keep it at or below four seconds, in line with YouTube’s guidance.
- Codec support: Check that the installed FFmpeg build includes an encoder for the chosen video and audio codecs. If it does not, choose a supported codec rather than assuming the command will work unchanged.
Loop a Kannada bhajan file with FFmpeg
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinite input looping; 0 means no looping. It is an input option, so put it before the input it applies to. The example below shows the loop placement and YouTube output destination, but it is a template, not a universal command: replace the input path, server URL, stream key, and encoding options with values suited to your file and YouTube’s current guidance.

Select a bitrate and keyframe interval based on your actual output frame rate and YouTube’s published table. Replace the endpoint with the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room, keeping the key confidential.

For an audio file with a still visual
An audio-only input does not automatically create a video picture for a YouTube Live broadcast. If you want a still image with the bhajan, prepare an image or a video file that combines the image and audio, then loop that compatible video input. Verify that the resulting file has the expected picture and audio before streaming. The exact FFmpeg filter or command depends on your source formats and installed build.
Start and verify the stream
- Run the command and check FFmpeg’s output for input, encoder, and connection errors.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and inspect both picture and sound before going public.
- If manual start is enabled for the scheduled event, use YouTube Studio’s Go live control after the encoder preview is healthy.
- Test with representative audio and motion, then monitor stream health and audio/video quality while the broadcast runs. YouTube advises testing and checking the preview before the event.
What “continuously” means with FFmpeg
The loop option repeats the input; it does not supervise the entire broadcast. An FFmpeg process can stop, a computer can sleep or lose power, a network can fail, an input file can be unavailable, or YouTube can stop accepting the stream. Account restrictions and rights matches can also interrupt it. Process supervision and connection monitoring are operational choices, but a loop command by itself is not a 24/7 uptime guarantee.

For a stream intended to stay live, prevent the host computer from sleeping, keep the source accessible, monitor FFmpeg and YouTube’s stream health, and have a recovery plan for a stopped process or dropped connection. Test the intended run length before relying on it.
Protect the stream and its replay
Copyright and Content ID
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder, and continued use of the matched content can interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also says that even licensed music may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and secure the relevant permissions and allowlisting where needed.

Archive limits and local backup
YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the replay matters, consider ending and restarting in shorter sessions and keep a local recording, checking that it is actually growing. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
