Check the Zap’s run history and raw action output before changing screenshot settings; each symptom has a different fix.
Find the first failing step
In the Zap editor, test the trigger and inspect Zap History or Task History for a recent run. Identify which of these applies:
- No trigger sample or Zap run: troubleshoot delivery, the trigger URL, request method, and payload.
- The screenshot action ran, but its output is empty or unexpected: inspect the raw response and the request sent to the screenshot service.
- The action returned an image, but the page in the image is blank or incomplete: check when the page became ready for capture.
Do not treat a successful webhook delivery as proof that the page rendered, or a blank image as proof that Zapier failed to receive the event. Zapier documents raw action-response diagnostics in the Editor and Task History; its May 29, 2026 update says improved troubleshooting is available to paid-plan customers (Zapier webhook troubleshooting).
If Zapier does not receive the webhook
Check the trigger URL and method
Compare the URL in the sending app with the URL shown for the Zap trigger. Make sure the sender uses the method that matches the trigger: Zapier documents Catch Hook and Catch Raw Hook for POST requests, and Retrieve Poll for GET requests. After correcting a mismatch, send a fresh event and test again. Zapier notes that instant triggers should be tested immediately after the event (Zapier webhook troubleshooting).

Check that the request contains a usable payload
A request that is completely blank cannot provide a trigger sample. Send a valid XML, JSON, or URL-encoded payload, then test the trigger again. A success response from the receiving endpoint does not by itself prove that Zapier received a payload it could use to trigger the Zap (Zapier webhook troubleshooting).
Trace uncertain delivery safely
If you cannot tell whether the sender delivered the request, temporarily direct it to a request-inspection service and check whether the event appears. If it does, the sender reached that endpoint; investigate payload compatibility or Zapier-side processing. If it does not, check the sender’s URL, configuration, and delivery. Do not post a live webhook URL publicly: it may act as a secret that lets others send requests to your Zap.
If the screenshot action ran but returned no usable image
Inspect the raw response first
Open the run’s action details and examine the raw response, where available. Determine whether the action returned image bytes, a URL to an image, structured JSON, an error, or an empty body. This distinguishes a missing image from an image that exists but depicts a blank page. Zapier’s webhook-response diagnostics are available in the Editor and Task History; access to its improved troubleshooting feature is plan-dependent (View the raw response from a webhook action).

Compare the request with your screenshot provider’s documentation
Check the action’s configured URL, HTTP method, query parameters, request body, headers, authentication, and expected response format against the documentation for the provider you actually use. A request that expects JSON will not handle image bytes the same way as one expecting an image URL. Provider-specific parameter names and response behavior vary, so do not copy settings from a different screenshot service without verifying them.

Zapier supports GET, POST, PUT, and Custom Request for webhook actions. Custom Request sends data exactly as entered rather than parsing or formatting it; validate raw JSON or XML before sending it. Zapier’s action documentation, updated August 10, 2026, states that webhook actions have a 5 MB maximum payload. That is a Zapier action limit, not a universal limit for screenshot services or image files (Send webhooks in Zaps).
If the response is an image but the website is blank
Wait for the content, not just the initial page load
JavaScript-heavy websites and single-page applications can show an initially empty shell while scripts fetch and render the content. If the screenshot service captures at that point, the image can be blank or incomplete even though navigation succeeded. Cloudflare’s Browser Run screenshot guide warns about this behavior and recommends waiting for network idle or for a known page selector to appear (Cloudflare Browser Run screenshot endpoint).

If your provider offers equivalent controls, try an explicit wait condition tied to the page content: wait for a selector that appears when the needed content is ready, or use a documented navigation wait condition such as network idle. A selector is often the more precise choice when the page continues making background requests. Avoid starting with an arbitrary long delay: it can make every capture slower without establishing that the required content has loaded. Cloudflare documents wait-until, selector-wait, and timeout controls; names and behavior differ across providers (Cloudflare screenshot guide; Cloudflare Browser API reference).
Check that the capture service can access the target
Confirm that the target URL is publicly reachable from the screenshot service. If the page requires a login, a specific cookie, or access to a private network, the service may not be able to see the same content as your browser. Supply only credentials and cookies supported by your provider, and avoid putting secrets in publicly visible URLs or Zap run data. These are checks to make when the page is blank, not a diagnosis of the cause in any particular Zap.
Use a screenshot service with clearer controls and results

- Changing rendering waits before checking delivery: a screenshot service cannot fix a trigger that Zapier never received.
- Treating any successful HTTP status as a valid screenshot: inspect the response body and format.
- Assuming every provider uses the same request parameters: verify its method, fields, authentication, and response format in its own documentation.
- Adding a long delay without a readiness condition: use a selector or documented wait condition where possible.
- Sharing a live webhook URL: redact it in screenshots, logs, and support requests.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a blank screenshot prove that the Zap failed?
No. Check the Zap run and action response: the trigger may not have fired, the action may have returned no image, or the image may show a page captured before its content rendered.

How can I tell whether Zapier received my webhook?
Check for a trigger sample or Zap run. If delivery is still uncertain, use a request-inspection endpoint temporarily and see whether the sender’s event appears there.
Why can a JavaScript page look blank in a screenshot?
The capture may happen before client-side scripts populate the page. Use a provider-supported wait condition tied to network activity or a content selector.
