In a StreamVoodoo room, click the Settings icon at the bottom left, then adjust the resolution and bitrate for your own video feed. StreamVoodoo lists 720p as the default, suggests 3–4 Mbps as a standard bitrate and 6 Mbps or higher when broadcasting, and says you can change the settings at any time. Its FAQ does not describe a separate 24/7 quality mode or confirm that settings persist after reconnects or restarts.
Change your StreamVoodoo video quality
- Open the StreamVoodoo room.
- Click the Settings icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Adjust the resolution and bitrate for your own feed. These are separate controls, so check both rather than assuming a resolution change also changes bitrate.
StreamVoodoo’s official WebApp FAQ says each participant can change their own quality settings. Changing yours does not set the quality for other participants; each person controls their own feed. The FAQ also says Voodoo Switcher can be used to control individual participant quality, which is a separate option for someone operating Switcher.
Choose a resolution and bitrate that your setup can sustain
Start with a stable setting
StreamVoodoo identifies 720p as its default resolution and recommends 3 or 4 Mbps as a standard bitrate. It suggests 6 Mbps or higher when broadcasting. These are StreamVoodoo’s published product recommendations, not a tested best setting for every camera, computer, room, or 24/7 workload.
Higher resolution and bitrate require enough camera capability, computer capacity, and network bandwidth. A setting that works briefly may still be unstable over a long session if the connection fluctuates or the computer struggles. If quality becomes inconsistent, reduce the bitrate or resolution and check whether the feed stabilizes.

Understand the stated upper limits
StreamVoodoo says a browser can use a camera configured up to 4K at 60 fps and up to 10 Mbps; its Mac app can go up to 20 Mbps. These are vendor-stated limits, not a guarantee that every camera, computer, browser, or connection can maintain them. StreamVoodoo says Ethernet is required for those highest settings.
Consider codec compatibility and device load
StreamVoodoo describes VP8 as its standard format, supported by every major browser. It says H.264 may suit mobile devices or devices that cannot handle VP8 or VP9; VP9 is a high-quality option that may not work for every participant; and AV1 offers high quality with lower bandwidth than VP8 or VP9 but requires a powerful computer. StreamVoodoo says Chrome with VP9 usually reaches the highest quality available through its service. The right choice depends on the devices and browsers in the room, not just the desired resolution.

Keep YouTube’s downstream stream settings separate
If the StreamVoodoo room is feeding a YouTube broadcast, its participant-feed settings are only one part of the production path. YouTube’s encoder and ingest recommendations apply to the stream sent to YouTube, and vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Follow YouTube’s live encoder guidance: choose settings your connection can reliably deliver, test before going live, and monitor stream health. Do not treat YouTube ingest bitrate recommendations as StreamVoodoo participant-feed recommendations.
What the 24/7 use case does—and does not—establish
StreamVoodoo documents how to change an individual participant’s feed quality, but its FAQ does not explain a distinct 24/7 setting or state whether your choices survive a disconnect, room restart, or continuous session. If any of those occur, check the feed settings after reconnecting rather than assuming they were retained. The published limits also do not establish a tested configuration for a particular always-on setup.

Troubleshoot quality problems
- The picture is soft: Confirm the selected resolution in Settings and check that the camera itself is configured to provide it. Raise resolution only if the camera, computer, and connection can sustain it.
- The feed stutters or drops: Lower bitrate or resolution to a level the available connection can reliably support. For high settings, StreamVoodoo says Ethernet is required; a wired connection may help meet that requirement, but does not guarantee a particular result.
- Another participant still looks different: Your controls affect your own feed. Ask that participant to adjust their own settings, or use Voodoo Switcher if you operate it and need to control individual participant quality.
- A codec does not work on a participant’s device: Consider a more compatible option. StreamVoodoo describes VP8 as its standard format and notes that VP9 may not work for every participant; AV1 also requires a powerful computer.
- Quality changes after a reconnect or restart: The FAQ does not confirm persistence. Reopen Settings and verify the feed’s current resolution and bitrate.
- The StreamVoodoo feed looks fine but YouTube output has issues: Check YouTube’s encoder configuration and live stream health separately; its ingest settings are distinct from the room participant’s feed settings.
