To take a website screenshot with Puppeteer on Windows in India, install Node.js 22.12 or later, create a project, and run npm i puppeteer. The package normally downloads a compatible Chrome for Testing browser. Then launch Puppeteer, navigate to a page, set its viewport, and save a screenshot. The official instructions describe Windows x64 and do not specify a separate India-only setup.
What you need on Windows
- Node.js: The Puppeteer system requirements guide lists Node.js 22.12 or later. Requirements can change, so check the current system requirements if your installed version is older.
- Windows architecture: The documented target is Windows x64.
- Browser extraction support: Windows needs
tar.exeor PowerShell to unpack Chrome for Testing, unless the optionalyauzldependency is installed.
The steps below use npm and Puppeteer’s bundled browser. The documentation does not describe a distinct installation process for India, nor does it establish region-specific download speeds or network restrictions.
Install Puppeteer and its browser
-
Open PowerShell or Windows Terminal and create a project directory:
mkdir puppeteer-screenshot cd puppeteer-screenshot npm init -y -
Install the full Puppeteer package:
npm i puppeteerThis normally downloads a compatible Chrome for Testing build and a separate headless shell. The installation guide gives an approximate Windows Chrome for Testing download size of 280 MB; the documentation is undated, and that figure may change. Browser files are stored in Puppeteer’s cache by default. The guide does not state a combined download size for the browser and headless shell. See the Puppeteer installation guide.

Wait for installation to finish. If the package manager blocks Puppeteer’s install script, the package may be present without its browser. Install the browser manually with:
npx puppeteer browsers install
Capture a website screenshot with JavaScript
Create a file named screenshot.js in the project directory. This example saves a full-page PNG; replace the URL and output filename as needed.

const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
async function main() {
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.setViewport({ width: 1365, height: 768 });

}
}
main().catch((error) => {

});
Run it from the project directory:
node screenshot.js
launch() starts a headless browser by default. The script creates a page, sets a viewport, navigates to the target, captures it, and closes the browser even if an error occurs. Puppeteer’s getting-started guide documents this basic browser/page/navigation flow. For available screenshot options, including output formats and clipping, see the Page.screenshot() API reference.
Choose who manages Chrome
| Package | Browser setup | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
puppeteer |
Downloads a compatible Chrome for Testing build by default. | You want the standard install-and-run path described above. |
puppeteer-core |
Does not download a browser. | You manage Chrome yourself or connect to a remote browser; configure the browser connection accordingly. |
When using a locally managed browser, Puppeteer’s configuration guide shows passing an explicit executablePath to launch(). A browser other than Puppeteer’s default can change your compatibility responsibilities. Default Puppeteer configuration files and environment variables are ignored by puppeteer-core. See the configuration guide.

Troubleshoot common setup failures
Chrome is missing after npm install
A package manager may have blocked Puppeteer’s install script, preventing the browser download. Run npx puppeteer browsers install. Alternatively, configure your package manager to allow Puppeteer’s install script, then reinstall as appropriate. The installation guide explains the browser-install behavior.
Windows reports a sandbox permission error
Puppeteer v22.14.0 and later attempts to configure permissions during browser installation. If the error persists, the troubleshooting guide documents this PowerShell-compatible command for applicable cases:

Check the Windows troubleshooting guidance before changing permissions, especially if you use a non-default cache location or installation setup.
You want to use another Chrome binary
Pass the path to the browser you manage:
const browser = await puppeteer.launch({ executablePath: 'C:\path\to\Chrome\chrome.exe' });
Use a path that exists on your computer. Chrome for Testing’s download guidance covers obtaining test binaries. The browser utility also supports installing stable or specified versions; check its live documentation for current command syntax.

Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API: one GET request can return an image or PDF. For example, this cURL command requests a WebP screenshot of a public page; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for options and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
- Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs.
- The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
ScreenshotNeo is an option if you would rather make an API request than install and manage a local browser. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
Frequently Asked Questions
