To include a cookie banner in a screenshot, leave it visible on the page and capture the page before dismissing or hiding it. Use Firefox’s screenshot tools for a quick manual capture, or Playwright when you need a repeatable workflow. A full-page option captures content below the viewport; it does not restore a banner that has already disappeared.
Choose the capture that fits your task
- Viewport: captures what is currently visible in the browser window.
- Full page: captures the page’s full scrollable content, including content below the fold. The banner is included only if it is still visible when the screenshot is taken.
- Selected element: captures a specific page element when you do not need the rest of the page.
For a one-off capture, Firefox’s built-in tools avoid writing code. For repeated captures or tests, Playwright provides an automatable method. The official documentation describes these capabilities but does not establish which is faster.
Take a full-page screenshot in Firefox
- Open the webpage and leave the cookie banner in the state you want to document. Do not dismiss it before capturing.
- Open Firefox Developer Tools settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. The toolbar button is not enabled by default. If your Developer Tools layout differs, look for that setting; labels and layout can vary by browser version. Mozilla’s screenshot documentation describes the available controls.
- Click the screenshot icon in the Developer Tools toolbar. Firefox saves the image to your Downloads directory.
- Open the saved image and verify that the banner is visible and the capture includes the area you need.
Use the Web Console instead
As an alternative, open the Web Console and run:
:screenshot --fullpage
This captures beyond the current window. Firefox also documents options including --filename, --delay, --dpr, --selector, and --clipboard. The --filename option expects a .png filename. See the Firefox screenshot command reference for usage details.
Capture the page with Playwright
Playwright is useful when the capture needs to run repeatedly as part of a script or test. The following Node.js example navigates to a page and saves a full-page screenshot. Keep the consent notice visible in the page state when the screenshot runs.

Install Playwright in your Node.js project with npm install playwright. Replace https://example.com with the page you want to capture. The fullPage option captures the full scrollable page rather than only the viewport; its documented default is false. For a viewport capture, omit fullPage: true. Playwright also supports clipping and image-format choices. Consult the Playwright screenshot API reference for the current options.
Decide what part of the page to capture
- Use a viewport capture when the visible screen, including the banner, is all you need.
- Use
fullPage: trueto include content below the fold as well as the visible banner. - Use an element capture or a clip when you need only a defined part of the page.
Playwright screenshot scale can be set in CSS pixels or device pixels. The appropriate choice depends on whether you want the screenshot dimensions to follow CSS layout pixels or device-pixel resolution.

Troubleshooting
The banner is missing
Check whether the banner was dismissed or hidden before capture. Full-page capture changes the capture area; it does not bring back a banner that is no longer visible in the page state. Reload the page if you need to restore its initial state, then capture before interacting with the notice.
The screenshot only shows the current window
In Firefox, use the entire-page screenshot button or run :screenshot --fullpage. In Playwright, set fullPage: true; otherwise the documented default is viewport capture.

Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page in Developer Tools settings under Available Toolbox Buttons. Firefox does not enable it by default.

The capture is the wrong size or includes extra content
Confirm whether you need a viewport, full page, or selected element. For Playwright, check the screenshot’s full-page, clipping, and scale options. For Firefox’s console command, review options such as --selector and --dpr.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does full-page mode make a cookie banner appear?
No. It expands the capture to the full scrollable page; the banner must still be visible in the page state when the screenshot is taken.
Can I screenshot only the cookie banner?
Yes. Firefox’s screenshot command documents a selector option, and Playwright supports clipping. Select or clip the banner element if you need only that region.
