Open the webpage, choose the browser’s Print command, select a PDF destination if the computer offers one, check the preview, and save the file only to a location the venue permits. The exact menu, destination name, and save options depend on the browser, operating system, and computer’s restrictions. If saving is blocked, ask the attendant rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
Save a webpage as a PDF
- Open the page and let it load. Wait until the text, images, and other parts you need appear. Pages that load more content as you scroll may need a moment to finish.
- Open Print. In Chrome, select File > Print. The documented keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, and Command+P on Mac. The Google Chrome Help instructions were accessed October 3, 2026; another browser may use different menus or labels.
- Choose a PDF destination, if available. Chrome’s print workflow lets you select a destination; one option may be called Save as PDF. The label and available destinations vary. If you see only a physical printer, that does not create a PDF.
- Check the preview before saving. Look for missing content, cut-off text, or pages you do not need. If the dialog offers them, adjust the page range, orientation, margins, or scale. Not every print dialog provides every control.
- Save to an allowed location. Choose a folder you can access and that the venue permits you to use. If the computer blocks downloads or offers no suitable destination, ask the attendant whether saving is allowed.
- Verify and clean up. If practical, check that the PDF is in the expected folder and opens. Before leaving, delete your downloaded copy and any desktop copy if permitted, close the private window if you used one, and sign out of accounts.
If there is no PDF destination
The browser’s print destination depends on the installed software and how the venue has configured the computer. The Chrome Help documents selecting a destination and using Save as PDF; it does not establish that every public computer in India has that option. Some computers may expose only a printer or restrict saving altogether.
If you need a paper copy and a printer is available, ask the venue about its process and any local charge. Printing on paper is a separate option; a physical printer is not needed when a PDF destination is available. Do not change system settings or try to get around restrictions. The 2011 Government of India cyber-café rules text includes precautions against tampering with computer settings; current implementation and venue practices may vary.
Protect your privacy on a cyber-café computer
Private browsing is limited protection
A private or incognito window can limit what remains in the browser’s local history after you close that window. The NCERT/CIET student handbook describes opening a private window and closing it to end the session, and also gives Firefox instructions for clearing recent history after using a normal window. Private browsing does not make a shared computer trustworthy, and it does not remove a PDF saved to a folder.

Handle the saved file and accounts carefully
The Ministry of Tourism’s public-computer guidance advises deleting personal documents downloaded to a cyber-café desktop, avoiding sensitive information, and logging out. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal also cautions against sensitive browsing on public computers, cyber cafés, and free Wi-Fi because data may be stolen or copied. Avoid opening bank, government, health, or other sensitive pages and documents on a shared computer when possible.
- Save only what you need, and do not leave the PDF on the desktop or in a shared folder.
- Delete your copy if the venue permits it, then empty the Recycle Bin or Trash if that option is available and permitted.
- Close the browser session and sign out of any accounts you used.
- Do not assume deletion guarantees removal from administrator records, monitoring software, backups, or recovery tools.

Check the location shown in the save dialog. If you did not note it, use the browser’s download list or the computer’s Downloads folder only if venue rules allow you to access them; ask the attendant if you cannot locate the file.

Can I delete a downloaded PDF from a cyber-café computer?
If the venue permits it, delete your copy from its folder and any desktop copy, then empty the Recycle Bin or Trash if available. This cannot guarantee that administrator records, monitoring software, backups, or recovery tools no longer retain data.
