You can’t prevent YouTube’s copyright scan with an OBS setting. The reliable way to reduce interruptions is to use material you have the right to stream and, for third-party licensed content, have the rights owner add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. A license alone may not stop a live interruption.
Why YouTube can interrupt an OBS loop
YouTube scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop streaming the content. If the matched content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. OBS does not provide a setting that bypasses this scan. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance describes this process.
This live enforcement is different from a Content ID claim on an archived stream. When a live stream is archived, YouTube says Content ID claims on that archive are made after the broadcast is complete. A Content ID claim is also not automatically a copyright strike: YouTube describes claims and strikes as distinct, though a stream can be terminated if the channel receives a copyright or Community Guidelines strike.
Choose loop material you are allowed to stream
Original or fully controlled material
Using content you created or otherwise control avoids many third-party rights dependencies. It does not guarantee immunity from mistaken or unrelated enforcement, so respond to any YouTube warning based on the information shown in Studio.

Third-party licensed material
Check that the license covers public YouTube live streaming and the intended archived or video-on-demand use. Review territory, duration, attribution requirements, and other restrictions, and keep a copy of the license and correspondence.
Before broadcasting, ask the rights owner or its Content ID administrator to add your exact YouTube channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that a stream may still be interrupted even when you have a license if the channel is not allowlisted. The owner’s administrative process can vary, so confirm that the allowlisting is in place and covers the material and use you intend.

Do not treat labels or short clips as clearance
“Royalty-free,” “stream-safe,” attribution, or using only a short excerpt does not by itself establish permission or prevent an automated match. YouTube’s August 15, 2019 update to its manual Content ID claiming policies advised creators to avoid unlicensed content, including incidental music, and named the YouTube Audio Library as a trusted source. That post addressed manual claims; it said the update did not affect automated Content ID match claims. A trusted source is sensible, but no music source guarantees that a live stream cannot receive a match.
Preflight the loop before going live
- Review every element in the loop. Check video, music, images, and any other included material. Confirm that your rights cover live streaming and the archived version, or remove the element.
- Get allowlisting confirmed for licensed third-party content. Contact the rights owner or its Content ID administrator with the exact channel and intended use. Keep written confirmation and relevant license terms.
- Run a private or unlisted technical preview when your workflow permits. Confirm that OBS is sending the stream and YouTube reports it as receiving data. Google’s Life of a Broadcast documentation describes testing a broadcast and checking stream status in an API-managed workflow. A clean preview verifies operation at that moment; it does not prove that later live matching cannot occur.
- Watch for YouTube warnings after starting. If YouTube flags third-party content, promptly remove or replace the matched element and follow the on-screen instructions rather than continuing with it.
What to do if the loop is interrupted
YouTube shows a copyright warning or placeholder
Stop using or replace the flagged element and follow YouTube’s on-screen directions. If the stream ends, open YouTube Studio and check the dashboard for strikes, restrictions, and the specific steps YouTube lists for restoring live-stream access. Do not assume that every Content ID match is a strike.

The archived stream receives a claim after it ends
That timing is consistent with YouTube’s guidance for Content ID claims on archived live streams. Check the claim details and the rights and restrictions that apply to the matched video. Content ID actions can include blocking, monetizing, or tracking a matched video, and can vary by geography; the general How Content ID works overview does not establish which outcome any particular stream will receive.
The stream drops without a copyright warning
Treat this as a separate connection or streaming-configuration problem. OBS says dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain. Check OBS’s dropped-frame and network indicators, then investigate the connection and bitrate; changing those settings will not resolve a copyright match. See the OBS Help Portal for connection troubleshooting.

It does not clear copyrighted material or bypass YouTube’s scan; you still need the rights and allowlisting described above.
