Set deviceScaleFactor in Puppeteer’s page viewport before navigating, then capture the page with page.screenshot(). A value above 1 increases the rendered pixel density for the same CSS viewport; it can sharpen the resulting image, but it cannot restore detail missing from the page’s source images.
Set deviceScaleFactor before page navigation
Use page.setViewport() to set the CSS viewport dimensions and emulated device pixel ratio. Configure it before page.goto() so the page is rendered at the intended scale from the start. Puppeteer’s Page.setViewport() API also notes that changing the viewport can reload a page in some cases.

})();The width and height values are CSS pixels. deviceScaleFactor sets the emulated device pixel ratio used for rendering. With a factor of 2, the browser renders at higher pixel density than a factor of 1 for the same CSS viewport. The screenshot therefore contains more pixels and may take more storage.
Understand what changes—and what does not
A higher device scale factor is a rendering-resolution adjustment, not an image-quality repair tool. It may help text and interface details look sharper when the image is viewed at an appropriate size. It will not add detail to a low-resolution image embedded in the page, and the final appearance can still be affected by CSS transforms, browser zoom, font rasterization, or later resizing that reduces the screenshot.

Keep screenshot clip scale separate
If you use a screenshot clip, its scale option is not the viewport’s device scale factor. The ScreenshotClip interface documents clip scale as a separate setting with a default of 1. Use deviceScaleFactor to control the emulated pixel density of the page; do not substitute clip scale for it.

Screenshot options also include fullPage, clip, type, and quality. The ScreenshotOptions interface states that quality does not apply to PNG images. Changing it will not sharpen a PNG.
Diagnose a screenshot that still looks blurry
- Set the viewport first. Pass
width,height, anddeviceScaleFactortopage.setViewport()beforepage.goto(). - Capture PNG to rule out JPEG compression. PNG avoids JPEG compression as a source of softness. Set the screenshot type explicitly if needed:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', type: 'png' }); - Check the image’s actual pixel dimensions. At a scale factor above
1, verify the saved bitmap rather than relying on how an image viewer scales it on screen. - Check clipping separately. If you capture only a region, verify the clip’s geometry and remember that its
scaleis distinct fromdeviceScaleFactor. - Inspect the page and downstream handling. Look for low-resolution source images, CSS transforms, browser zoom, font rendering, or image resizing after capture. A larger capture cannot fix detail lost elsewhere in the rendering or display pipeline.

No. Puppeteer documents that the quality option does not apply to PNG screenshots.
Should I change the clip scale to fix a blurry page screenshot?
Not as a substitute for deviceScaleFactor. Clip scale applies separately to a screenshot clip and defaults to 1.
