If your YouTube RTMP bitrate fluctuates on Airtel Xstream Fiber, first check the encoder’s output settings and YouTube’s stream-health messages. Then compare the same stream over Wi-Fi and Ethernet. A fluctuating bitrate alone does not show whether the cause is the encoder, your home network, Airtel’s connection, or the path to YouTube.
1. Capture the stream settings and health message
Before changing settings, note your output resolution, frame rate, codec, configured bitrate, and the bitrate or network warnings shown by your encoder. During a test stream, open YouTube Studio’s live control room and inspect the stream-health status and any specific message. YouTube’s health diagnostics distinguish issues such as high or low bitrate, long GOP/keyframe intervals, unsupported codec, and video ingestion starvation. The API reference also describes stream status and health fields (YouTube LiveStreams reference).

Match the correction to the warning. For example, YouTube describes videoIngestionStarved as not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. That identifies a stream condition, not necessarily the ISP responsible. Likewise, no configuration warning does not prove your upload path is stable. See YouTube’s live-stream status reference for the API’s health and status model.
2. Match bitrate to codec, resolution, and frame rate
YouTube publishes separate bitrate guidance for H.264, AV1, and H.265. Do not apply an H.264 figure to a different codec. The following are YouTube’s H.264 ingestion figures; they are recommendations for encoder output, not measurements or guarantees of Airtel upload performance. YouTube’s settings page does not display a publication year (YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).

| H.264 stream profile | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
If the stream’s bitrate repeatedly falls below the selected profile’s minimum, test a lower output profile rather than assuming the connection can sustain the recommended rate. YouTube advises: “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” Its full table covers resolutions from 360p through 4K and frame rates up to 60 fps.
3. Verify the encoder’s output configuration
- Rate control: Set bitrate mode to CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends for live encoding.
- Keyframes: Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds; its health guidance warns that longer intervals can cause buffering.
- Codec and protocol: Use a supported codec and RTMP or RTMPS. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Confirm the encoder is actually outputting the codec and profile you selected.
- One change at a time: If a health message identifies a bitrate, codec, frame-rate, or keyframe problem, change that setting and retest with representative video motion and audio. Record the result before changing another variable.
For the complete supported settings and codec-specific bitrate table, consult YouTube’s live encoder settings guide. For diagnostic names and corrective descriptions, see YouTube’s configuration issue reference.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
4. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
Run the same stream profile from the same computer first over Wi-Fi and then, if possible, through a direct Ethernet connection to the Airtel ONT/router. Airtel’s home guidance identifies an RJ45 Cat5/Cat6 LAN cable for connecting a computer to the ONT/router. Keep the encoder settings constant so the network path is the main difference being compared. A wired test can help identify whether the Wi-Fi segment is associated with the symptom; it cannot by itself distinguish a router issue from an Airtel-side or YouTube-ingestion issue (Airtel Xstream Fiber home troubleshooting).
If Ethernet is unavailable, Airtel notes that 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi generally reaches farther while 5 GHz can offer faster speeds at shorter range. Test close to the router and avoid changing several network conditions at once. Do not replace the router or ONT, or assume a cable will fix the problem, without evidence that the equipment is faulty.

5. Distinguish throughput symptoms from RTMPS connection errors
Variable bitrate and a connection timeout are different symptoms. For setup errors, verify that the encoder uses a valid YouTube RTMPS endpoint and the RTMPS protocol. YouTube’s RTMPS documentation specifies port 443 and requires the server hostname for authentication through SNI. A wrong server or port can cause an SSL error; sending cleartext RTMP to an endpoint expecting RTMPS can time out. These checks address connection setup and are not evidence that RTMPS alone will stabilize upload throughput. See YouTube’s RTMPS delivery guide (last updated 2026-09-14 UTC).

- Choose a representative stream and record its resolution, frame rate, codec, configured bitrate, and keyframe interval.
- Observe the encoder’s bitrate and warnings alongside YouTube’s stream-health messages, noting the time of each change.
- Repeat with the same settings over Ethernet if possible. If you change an encoder setting, change only one and note what happened.
- Repeat under comparable conditions if the issue is intermittent. A generic speed-test result is not proof of sustained live-stream performance.
- If the symptom persists, send Airtel or the relevant platform support channel the times, encoder logs, YouTube health messages, output settings, and whether the issue also occurs over Ethernet.
