But a stream key only connects OBS to YouTube—it does not make a playlist loop continuously. YouTube’s official guidance does not establish a built-in OBS workflow for looping uploaded videos 24/7, and streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Set up the connection below, then verify your playback automation, rights, and backup plan separately.
What a YouTube stream key does—and does not do
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” The key, together with the server URL, lets an encoder such as OBS send a live feed to YouTube. You can create a custom key for reuse, but reusing a key does not keep a stream running by itself. If the key is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace it in OBS. YouTube’s stream-key guidance explains managing keys.
The word “playlist” can mean either a sequence of creator videos or a technical playlist of media segments used for HLS delivery. YouTube’s HLS segment rules describe the latter, not a creator playlist that loops. Do not select HLS just because your content is a playlist; YouTube recommends RTMPS for typical encoder streams, while HLS is intended for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP and has higher latency. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance covers segment delivery.
Check channel eligibility before configuring OBS
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes these requirements and the Live Control Room workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

No Malayalam-specific stream-key setting is established in YouTube’s encoder and key guidance. The key is for the channel’s encoder connection, not the spoken or sung language. Set stream language or other video metadata through YouTube’s metadata workflow as needed; the exact language-field path is not covered here.
Find the stream URL and key in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, create a stream or select the scheduled stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly or include it in a screen recording.
- If you later suspect the key was exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement before reconnecting.

Enter the key and configure OBS for YouTube
- Open OBS and go to Settings → Stream.
- Select YouTube as the service if it is available in your OBS installation. If you use a custom service option, enter the server URL copied from Live Control Room.
- Paste the YouTube stream key into the stream-key field. Keep it private; do not put it in a public note, chat, or screenshot.
- Apply the settings, then start a test stream and check the YouTube preview and stream health before relying on the setup.
OBS labels can vary by version and service integration. The essential values are the matching YouTube server URL and stream key; use the values shown in Live Control Room rather than guessing a server address.
Choose encoder settings that match the connection
For a typical SDR stream over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube recommends H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Resolution and bitrate must fit the source and the upload connection, and the published figures are ingestion guidance—not a promise that a particular connection will remain stable. Check YouTube’s current table before settling on a different codec, resolution, or frame rate: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

These are YouTube’s current live-encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026. Pick a resolution and bitrate your upload can sustain with headroom, especially if other devices share the connection. Test with representative audio and motion, inspect the preview, and monitor stream health rather than assuming a setting is suitable.

A successful connection proves only that OBS can send a feed. The official YouTube materials reviewed explain reusable keys, scheduled streams, encoder connections, and HLS segment delivery; they do not establish a native OBS procedure for looping a creator’s video playlist without interruption around the clock. Validate the chosen playback and automation method separately, including what happens when OBS, the computer, or the connection stops.

Also plan for the archive limit. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if you need your own copy, and do not treat a 24-hour broadcast as a reliable archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance. Confirm rights for Malayalam music and video
Before broadcasting prerecorded Malayalam songs, devotional music, film clips, or other videos, make sure you have the necessary rights for both the live use and any archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to interruption or termination. Owning a copy, having permission for personal listening, or crediting the creator does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and copyright issues with live streams.
Troubleshoot common setup failures
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that OBS has the server URL and key from the same stream, that the key was pasted without extra characters, and that the channel is eligible to stream. If the key was reset, replace the old value in OBS.
- The stream connects but drops or looks unstable: Test upload capacity and lower the resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings. Verify CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, then inspect YouTube’s stream health and preview.
- The video connects but does not loop: The key only carries OBS’s output. Confirm the separate playback or automation tool is configured to repeat the intended sequence; YouTube’s HLS segment playlist is not a creator-video looping feature.
- A stream longer than 12 hours is missing from archives: This is a documented possibility, not necessarily a failed key or OBS setting. Preserve a local recording when a complete copy matters.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Review rights for the matched audio or video and resolve the underlying rights issue; changing stream-key settings does not clear a copyright match.
