Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If OBS keeps reconnecting to YouTube Live, first check whether OBS is dropping network frames and compare that with YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. Rising network dropped frames usually point to an unstable path to YouTube’s ingest server or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain—not automatically a broken OBS installation. Lowering bitrate and testing one network factor at a time are the best first checks.
The official OBS and YouTube guidance below applies generally; it does not establish a special India-only setting, an India-wide outage, or a particular best ISP. If local checks do not resolve the drops, share timestamps and diagnostics with your ISP so it can investigate your connection and route.
Identify where the stream is failing
Run a short test stream before an important broadcast. In OBS, watch the dropped-frame counter and connection indicator; in YouTube Live Control Room, read the stream-health messages for the same period. Note the time and what changed. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream and monitoring stream health.
| What you observe | What it suggests | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS network dropped frames rise or its connection indicator changes, and YouTube reports connection trouble | An unstable outbound path to the ingest server or a configured bitrate the connection cannot sustain. OBS warns that enough dropped frames can disconnect the stream. | Reduce bitrate, then test network and software variables. |
| YouTube reports a third-party encoder startup or stream-key error | This is different from recurring drops during an active stream. | Use YouTube’s stream-key recovery steps below. |
| The local picture or audio is poor, or the computer struggles | The encoder, sources, or CPU may be involved rather than only the network. | Compare OBS’s local output and YouTube’s diagnostic messages before changing network settings. |
YouTube’s diagnostic messages can help distinguish an encoder startup/key problem, local encoder quality or CPU issues, and outbound connection trouble. Avoid changing several settings at once: a timestamped, one-variable test makes the cause easier to isolate.

Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
Use stable upload capacity, not just the advertised plan speed or a brief speed-test peak. OBS Project’s 2024 connection guide suggests starting video bitrate at 75% of total upload speed, then lowering it if connection drops continue. That is a starting point, not a guarantee: the usable capacity can vary over time and other network use can compete with the stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance gives these H.264 examples. The minimum and recommended values are YouTube platform guidance, not proof that a particular connection can deliver them reliably.

| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
To change the OBS video bitrate, open Settings → Output and lower the video bitrate, then test again. If dropped frames stop, the previous setting may have exceeded stable capacity. If they continue, keep testing the connection path rather than assuming the OBS installation is at fault.
Check the YouTube encoder settings too
YouTube’s encoder guidance, accessed 2026-10-03, specifies RTMP/RTMPS as protocols and recommends RTMPS. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 codecs, frame rates up to 60 fps, CBR bitrate encoding, and a 2-second keyframe frequency recommendation (not above 4 seconds). Check YouTube’s current table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually use, and prioritize reliable delivery over a higher setting your connection cannot sustain.

Test OBS’s Windows network options
OBS documents these options as troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes. Change them carefully and test after each change.
- In OBS, open Settings → Advanced → Network.
- Enable Network Optimizations and TCP pacing, then run a test stream and watch the dropped-frame counter.
- Keep Bind to IP set to Default.
- If drops persist, try IP Family set to IPv4 Only as an isolation test. If there is no improvement, restore IPv4 and IPv6.
- OBS also offers beta Dynamic Bitrate adjustment. It may lower bitrate during congestion and reduce frame drops, but image quality can fall and the underlying network problem remains.
Isolate Wi-Fi, security software, and equipment
Test one factor at a time and note the result. OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming because Wi-Fi may be unstable.

With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
- Wi-Fi: If the PC uses Wi-Fi, test it with Ethernet connected to the router. A cable is useful here as a diagnostic: it can isolate the local wireless link, but cannot fix an ISP route or a YouTube-side fault.
- VPN: Temporarily disconnect the VPN for a controlled test. If reconnecting stops the drops, investigate the VPN path or configuration.
- Security software: Temporarily test whether it is interfering. If the test points to it, add an OBS exception and re-enable protection; do not leave security software disabled.
- Network optimizers: Check for vendor utilities that claim to boost or prioritize network traffic. Test with them disabled if appropriate.
- Drivers and local network: Check for current network drivers from the computer or motherboard manufacturer. Restart the modem and router. Do not buy replacement equipment unless testing identifies an equipment fault; consult the ISP if you are unsure.
Also note whether other devices or services have connection problems at the same time. If multiple devices are affected, that is useful evidence for the ISP; it is not by itself proof of where the fault lies.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Contact your ISP with evidence if drops continue
If bitrate, OBS network options, software, and local-network tests do not resolve the issue, ask your ISP to investigate the connection and route. OBS notes that unexpected congestion or changes along an ISP route can affect streaming; YouTube also advises contacting the ISP when connection testing identifies problems. The official guidance does not identify a current India-wide incident or a responsible Indian provider.

Fix a stream-key startup error separately
If YouTube reports an error when starting a third-party encoder, rather than repeated drops in an already-running stream, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to create a new stream key in Live Control Room and update the encoder with it. If you sign in to YouTube from streaming software without using a stream key, YouTube directs you to that software’s support team.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping on a YouTube channel, rather than troubleshoot a live camera or other real-time OBS production, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative.
