Short answer: Percy and Applitools Eyes both help teams find unintended visual changes, but neither is a universal winner. Percy offers test-run snapshots compared with approved baselines and also advertises a separate URL-based Visual Scanner. Applitools emphasizes match-level controls and grouping related changes, and says Eyes covers desktop applications and PDFs as well as web and mobile. Choose by the surfaces and workflow you need, then compare both on the same representative pages and states.
What visual monitoring does—and does not—check
Visual checks compare how an interface appears over time or across environments. They complement functional tests: a screenshot diff can reveal a shifted button or changed layout, but it does not prove that a button works, a form submits, or the application behaves correctly. BrowserStack describes Percy as capturing and comparing screenshots during test runs against previously approved baselines, with differences reviewed before changes are merged. How Percy and Applitools differ
Percy: test snapshots and a separate URL scanner
Percy’s documented workflow takes snapshots as tests run, compares them with approved baselines, and highlights differences for review in a development workflow. BrowserStack also currently promotes Percy Visual Scanner, which it describes as monitoring configured URLs across browsers and devices without code or installation. Treat these as distinct entry points: the URL scanner is not the same thing as test-integrated snapshots. Check the current product details to confirm which mode and integrations suit your team. Percy product page
BrowserStack says Percy can render snapshots in selected browsers and show browser-specific diffs. Each browser counts as a screenshot toward monthly usage, so cross-browser coverage can increase consumption. Its feature descriptions also mention responsive diffs, snapshot stabilization for animations and custom fonts, and a computer-vision-powered engine intended to reduce noise. These are vendor descriptions, not independently measured accuracy or false-positive results. Percy cross-browser documentation · Percy features

Applitools Eyes: match levels and broader claimed surface coverage
Applitools describes Eyes as using match levels and other controls to determine how visual changes are evaluated, and as grouping related changes across browsers and pages. The company says it supports web and mobile screens as well as desktop applications and PDFs, and offers public SaaS, dedicated cloud, and on-premises deployment. Its comparison page also lists Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium, and Storybook among supported frameworks. These are vendor claims; verify exact integrations, feature availability, and deployment choices for your intended configuration. Applitools’ Percy comparison
Applitools characterizes Percy as flagging differences after a build with an AI review layer for noise filtering, while positioning Eyes’ match levels as controls applied before comparison. That is product positioning, not a neutral finding that one system is more accurate. Evaluate both with your own dynamic content, fonts, animations, and intentional design changes.

Which should you choose?
- Shortlist Percy if test-run snapshots fit your existing workflow, or if its URL-based Visual Scanner matches a need for no-code URL monitoring. Confirm how your required browser coverage affects monthly screenshot usage.
- Shortlist Eyes if its match-level approach, grouping, claimed desktop/PDF coverage, or deployment options address requirements Percy does not meet. Confirm those capabilities and integrations for your specific configuration.
- Evaluate both when visual noise, dynamic pages, or review effort is the deciding factor. Vendor feature descriptions alone do not establish which will produce less maintenance for your application.
A practical evaluation before committing
- Choose representative pages, components, responsive widths, browsers, and dynamic states—include pages with animation, frequently changing content, and custom fonts if those occur in production.
- Run the same intended changes and unchanged pages through each candidate. Include both a genuine design change and an expected no-change run to observe the comparison and review experience.
- Track practical outcomes: missed changes, noisy diffs, reviewer effort, baseline updates, browser/device coverage, and time to connect the tool to your CI or URL-monitoring workflow.
- Confirm plan limits, billing term and currency, deployment, integrations, and required feature entitlements directly with each vendor before purchase.
ScreenshotNeo: an alternative for capturing pages
For teams whose immediate need is to capture a URL as an image or PDF rather than adopt a visual-baseline review system, try ScreenshotNeo first: it is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a like-for-like Percy or Eyes regression-review platform. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; the service can accept cookie/consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. These steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot and page-information tools for AI agents.
