To stream a prerecorded Malayalam news video continuously, create or select a stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream URL and key, then give FFmpeg the YouTube ingest destination and a compatible video/audio configuration. The language does not change the key setup; check Malayalam text, narration, captions, and graphics in the media itself. A loop command can repeat a file, but dependable 24/7 broadcasting also needs monitoring and a recovery plan.

Before you start

  • Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
  • Install an FFmpeg build that includes the encoders you intend to use, and confirm that your source file has the expected video and audio streams.
  • Make sure the host has a stable internet connection with upload capacity above the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; see its streaming tips.
  • Use media you have the rights to stream. A 24/7 broadcast does not make copyrighted music, video, or other material permissible. Review YouTube’s copyright safety checklist before going live.

Get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live, then choose the Stream tab.
  2. Create a stream or select an existing one. You can create a custom stream key for reusable settings.
  3. Copy the displayed Stream URL and Stream key. YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”: they tell the encoder where to send its feed and let YouTube accept it. See Manage live stream settings.
  4. Keep the key private. Do not publish it in an article, repository, screenshot, or shared log. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old key in FFmpeg.

Use the exact server URL YouTube displays. The RTMPS address in the example below is a common pattern, not a substitute for the URL shown for your stream. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest; its encoder workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Prepare FFmpeg’s loop and output settings

This template is a starting point, not a tested command or a guarantee for every FFmpeg build or media file. Replace input.mp4, STREAM_KEY, and, if necessary, the ingest URL with the values appropriate to your setup. Do not paste a real key into a public script or log.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "input.mp4" \
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast \
  -b:v 5M -maxrate 5M -bufsize 10M \
  -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0 \
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 \
  -f flv "rtmps://a.rtmp.youtube.com:443/live2/STREAM_KEY"
  • -re reads the file at approximately its native rate instead of sending it as fast as possible.
  • -stream_loop -1 requests indefinite looping. These input options appear before -i.
  • -c:v libx264 and -c:a aac select video and audio encoders; check that your FFmpeg build supports them and that the source contains streams to encode.
  • -b:v, -maxrate, and -bufsize set video-rate controls. The example’s 5 Mbps video rate is not a universal setting.
  • -g 60 -keyint_min 60 sets a 60-frame GOP in this example. At 30 fps, that is a two-second keyframe interval; for other frame rates, choose the frame count accordingly. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds.
  • The example uses a 44.1 kHz audio sample rate and 128 kbps AAC. Choose audio settings that suit the source and YouTube’s current encoder guidance.

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant-bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. For H.264 at 1080p30, its current table lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate. Those figures apply to that resolution, frame rate, and codec—not every stream. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Set dimensions and frame rate to match the source and intended output, and leave the recommended network headroom above the total audio and video bitrate.

The -f flv output format and example URL are for a common RTMP/RTMPS workflow. If YouTube shows a different destination or protocol, follow that value. FFmpeg documents RTMP options in its Protocols Documentation. Test any command with your actual file and FFmpeg build; if considering stream copy instead of re-encoding, first verify that the source codecs and output are compatible.

Start the encoder and verify the YouTube preview

  1. Run FFmpeg on the host that will keep the stream running. Watch its output for input, encoder, or connection errors.
  2. Open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and confirm video appears in the preview before treating the stream as live.
  3. Check the picture, sound, and stream health. YouTube recommends testing, previewing, and monitoring quality rather than assuming a successful FFmpeg start means the broadcast is healthy.
  4. For a Malayalam news loop, inspect Malayalam glyph rendering and font availability, check subtitle readability at mobile sizes, confirm narration is audible and synchronized, and verify that tickers and time graphics update as intended. These are production checks for the media asset, not special stream-key requirements.

Keep a 24/7 loop running reliably

Repeating the input file does not by itself make the service resilient. A self-managed setup needs an operating host, a dependable network, and a plan for process or connection failure.

  • 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
  • Use a process supervisor or equivalent restart plan so FFmpeg can be restarted after a crash.
  • Monitor both the FFmpeg process and YouTube’s stream health; investigate dropped frames, missing audio, or a stalled preview.
  • Plan for temporary network failures. FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer documentation describes RTMP output recovery options, but they are not a guarantee of seamless reconnection to YouTube. Test behavior on the actual host and build. See FFmpeg Documentation.
  • Run a real test before relying on the setup unattended, and maintain upload headroom rather than using the full available connection capacity.

Plan separately for an archive

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, so do not assume YouTube will save the full continuous stream as one complete video. If you need a complete copy, arrange separate recording and check YouTube’s current handling of long broadcasts. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload the prerecorded video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your home computer and connection do not have to stay on. It is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
YouTube does not receive a signal Wrong server URL or key, an expired/reset key, or a connection problem. Copy the current URL and key from the stream’s Live Control Room, update FFmpeg, and inspect its connection output. If the key may be exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
FFmpeg reports an encoder or stream error The build lacks a selected encoder, the source lacks an expected audio/video stream, or its format is incompatible with the output. Check the FFmpeg build and inspect the input streams; use compatible encoders and test the actual file before relying on the stream.
Video arrives but looks poor or drops frames Bitrate, resolution, or frame rate may not fit the source or available upload bandwidth. Match settings to the source, check YouTube’s guidance for the selected codec and resolution, and preserve upload headroom.
Audio is absent, out of sync, or distorted The input may lack an audio stream, or encoding/sample-rate choices may not suit it. Confirm the source audio exists, test the output in preview, and adjust the audio configuration to a supported setting.
The stream stops after a host or network interruption A looping input does not restart a crashed process or guarantee reconnection. Use and test a supervisor/restart plan, monitor YouTube health, and validate recovery options on the actual system.
Malayalam captions or graphics render incorrectly The required font may be unavailable, glyphs may not be embedded, or text may be too small for mobile viewing. Check font rendering, subtitle size, narration synchronization, and ticker updates in the encoded output before launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reuse a YouTube stream key?

Does Malayalam require a different FFmpeg stream key procedure?

No. The key and ingest steps are language-independent; Malayalam-specific checks concern how the media renders and sounds.
