If YouTube Live Control Room says “no data” from an Indian VPS, first check the exact stream-health message and timestamp, then confirm the active stream URL and key, the RTMP or RTMPS connection, and the VPS’s outbound network. “No data” alone does not show that YouTube blocks Indian VPS addresses, and the official guidance available does not establish an India-specific ingest restriction.

What “no data” tells you—and what it doesn’t

“No data” is a symptom, not a diagnosis. YouTube’s official guidance describes stream status and specific health errors, but the phrase by itself does not identify a single cause. It does not prove a regional block or establish that the stream has reached YouTube successfully.

The official ingest documentation describes general requirements; it does not say that Indian VPS addresses are blocked or require a special India-specific ingest endpoint. Without a controlled comparison or a notice specific to your route, do not attribute the problem to geography.

Work through the RTMP checks in order

  1. Read the precise health error. In YouTube Live Control Room, check the stream-health message and when it appeared. YouTube says specific error messages accompany the health indicator. A named format, keyframe, or video-setting error points toward encoder output; a timeout points toward the endpoint or network. Use the message as the branch point rather than treating “no data” as a canonical error with one fixed meaning. YouTube: Fix streaming issues.
  2. Verify the active stream URL and key. Copy the URL and stream key from the relevant current stream in Live Control Room, then compare them with the encoder’s configured values. Make sure the encoder is running and inspect its own output or logs. If a third-party encoder will not start, YouTube advises getting a fresh stream key and updating the encoder. Do not rely on an old key or a URL copied from an example. YouTube: Go live with an encoder.
  3. Select the right protocol and endpoint. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS. Retrieve the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room; the default displayed URL may be ordinary RTMP, so choose the secure URL deliberately. Use the current URL for this stream rather than substituting a generic or remembered ingest address. YouTube: Go live with an encoder.
  4. Check RTMPS port and TLS hostname. For RTMPS, Google’s ingestion documentation specifies port 443 and explains that the server hostname is needed for TLS server authentication through SNI. Confirm that the encoder or publishing client uses the RTMPS scheme, the correct endpoint hostname, port 443, and a TLS setup that supplies the hostname. Wrong protocol, port, endpoint, or SNI can cause connection or certificate errors. Google for Developers: RTMPS ingestion.
  5. Test outbound reachability and capacity. Check whether the VPS can establish an outbound connection to the selected ingest endpoint, and whether its upload remains stable for the full test. YouTube recommends using a speed test and leaving 20% spare upload bandwidth above the stream’s aggregate bitrate. That is general capacity-planning advice, not evidence of a failure rate for Indian VPSs. If reachability or stability is in doubt, ask the provider about egress filtering, route instability, or account-level network restrictions. YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and YouTube: Streaming tips.
  6. If transport works, inspect media settings. Match the encoder output to the actual health error. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Check the selected video format, codec, bitrate, resolution, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current recommendations and the encoder error shown. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which change affects the result. YouTube: Live encoder settings and YouTube: Fix streaming issues.
  7. Compare paths without changing several variables. If possible, test the same encoder configuration from another network, or try a known-working encoder/network path. Keep the key, URL protocol, bitrate, and test duration constant where possible. If the outcome changes, that helps isolate whether the issue follows the VPS route, encoder, stream configuration, or key; it does not by itself prove an India-wide restriction.

How to interpret the result

What you observe What to check next
A health message names a key, format, keyframe, or video setting Check the current key and encoder media settings; use the specific error as your guide.
The encoder reports a timeout or cannot connect Verify the current endpoint and protocol, then check outbound reachability, RTMPS port 443, TLS, and SNI.
The encoder connects, but health errors continue Inspect the stream format and video settings, including CBR and keyframe interval.
The same setup works from another network but not from the VPS Investigate the VPS route, egress policy, and sustained upload capacity with the provider; the comparison alone does not establish a regional block.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the country is the cause: the available official requirements do not document an India-specific block or endpoint.
  • Using an old key or URL: fetch both from the active stream in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
  • Assuming RTMP and RTMPS are interchangeable: when testing RTMPS, use its current endpoint and TLS configuration rather than only changing the label or port.
  • Changing many encoder settings at once: make one adjustment and retest against the reported error.
  • Ignoring upload headroom: a speed-test peak is not proof of stable sustained capacity. Leave YouTube’s recommended 20% spare bandwidth.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a prerecorded YouTube stream that loops continuously, rather than diagnosing this VPS for its own sake, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing needs to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
