There is no officially recommended delay for Indian broadband: OBS doubles the wait after each failed retry, so the setting controls how OBS attempts recovery—not whether an unstable connection becomes reliable.
Set OBS to retry a dropped stream
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced.
- Find Automatically Reconnect and enable it.
- Set Retry Delay to a positive number of seconds and choose Maximum Retries to match how long you are willing to let OBS keep trying.
- Apply the settings, then test a brief interruption and observe whether OBS reconnects to YouTube as expected. Check the labels and behavior in your installed OBS version before relying on it for an unattended loop.
The retry delay is the starting wait, not a fixed interval for every attempt. OBS doubles the wait each time it retries; a retry count of zero disables reconnecting. See the OBS Output API Reference for the documented behavior.
Choose a delay and retry count for your outage pattern
OBS and YouTube do not publish a best setting for Indian broadband or for every 24/7 loop. Use your own observed outages and the interruption your channel can tolerate to make the choice.

| Fewer maximum retries | OBS stops trying sooner if the outage continues. | When you plan to monitor the stream and intervene rather than leave a long retry sequence running. |
These are operational trade-offs, not values prescribed by OBS. Test your chosen settings, including the actual recovery behavior, before depending on them for a long unattended stream.

Check whether the connection—not the retry timer—is the problem
Watch OBS output and dropped frames
Dropped frames or intermittent disconnections can indicate a network problem between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server. OBS identifies an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain as possible causes. Reconnect settings cannot restore a broadband service that is still down or guarantee that the ingest endpoint is reachable. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Measure upload capacity and leave headroom
Check outbound upload capacity, not only download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom for streaming in its general guidance; this is not an India-specific reliability statistic. If you use a backup stream, account for that too: YouTube says the primary stream, backup stream, and recommended headroom should fit within available outbound bandwidth. Match bitrate to the output you actually use
Choose a bitrate based on your resolution, frame rate, and codec, then compare it with stable upload capacity. YouTube provides recommended encoder bitrate ranges for different output settings, but no one value is right for every setup or connection. Test before going live and monitor stream health during the broadcast using YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
Test Ethernet if you currently use Wi-Fi
OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. Ethernet may help if your computer and router have compatible ports, but it cannot fix an ISP outage or a problem at YouTube’s ingest server. See OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance.

Check software and network conditions
If disconnections persist, OBS recommends checking bitrate stability, VPN or security-software interference, bundled network-optimization utilities, drivers, and other network conditions. Dynamic bitrate may reduce dropped frames when the connection cannot keep up, but it does not fix the underlying cause and can lower stream quality. Consult the OBS troubleshooting steps before changing several settings at once.
Protect your YouTube stream key
Your YouTube stream key lets an encoder send a feed to your channel, so keep it private. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement key. YouTube documents stream key management in Manage live stream settings.
