If you need a YouTube channel to play recorded news clips continuously, choose a cloud service that explicitly supports 24/7 looping—not just a tool that schedules prerecorded videos or sends a live show to several platforms. Restream’s official pages describe prerecorded streaming and scheduled YouTube events, but do not establish uninterrupted playlist looping. For continuous cloud playback, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube, runs without a computer left on, supports uploads up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and includes a free first day.

What to look for in a 24/7 recorded-news setup

A channel built from recorded clips has a different job from a presenter-led live show. It needs reliable playback and a way to recover when a stream disconnects; a studio for guests, live graphics, and multistreaming may be useful, but those features do not prove that a service can keep a playlist running around the clock.

  • Continuous playback: Confirm that the service supports looping or continuous 24/7 playout, rather than only scheduling separate video events.
  • Operating model: Cloud playout does not depend on your home computer staying on. A local encoder does, along with the computer and internet connection.
  • Destination and limits: Check YouTube support, stream duration or slot limits, resolution terms, storage, and whether the plan allows the number of channels or streams you need.
  • Production needs: Decide whether you need only prerecorded clips, or also live presenters, guests, overlays, chat, or distribution to other platforms.
  • Editorial readiness: Confirm rights for both the video and audio in every clip. Check YouTube’s current requirements directly rather than assuming that a technically working stream is automatically acceptable.

The two key YouTube references are its live-stream setup help and encoder guidance. The available information here does not establish a specific 24/7 duration limit, archive behavior, or rights rule, so verify those details with YouTube before building the channel around them.

Best alternatives for continuous YouTube clip playback

The options below are not interchangeable: some are cloud playout services, some schedule prerecorded events, and others are production studios or local encoders. Vendor capabilities and plan terms can change. The comparison pages cited below are vendor-authored, not independent tests, so confirm current limits with the provider before paying.

Option Fit for a continuous recorded-clips channel Important distinction or limit
1. StreamNeo Cloud looping of uploaded videos to YouTube, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. One YouTube stream per slot; upload storage is 10 GB per slot, pooled across active slots. It does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
2. Upstream Its vendor-authored comparison describes cloud slots for 24/7 and scheduled prerecorded use, as well as live, backup, and multistream use. Verify current destination, quality, slot, and price limits on the provider’s own site. The comparison says its plan figures were last checked June 10, 2026, and that it was updated September 21, 2026. Upstream’s Restream alternatives comparison.
3. Gyre A LiveReacting-authored comparison lists it among services with some 24/7 prerecorded capability. The comparison is vendor-authored and does not establish current terms for every plan. Check the provider’s own current documentation. LiveReacting’s comparison.
4. LiveReacting Its comparison lists the service among options with some 24/7 prerecorded capability. Confirm the current looping workflow and plan limits directly with the provider; comparison claims are not independent tests. LiveReacting’s comparison.
5. Castr A LiveReacting-authored comparison reports looping on Premium and above. That plan claim was checked by the comparison publisher on September 23, 2026; verify the current Castr plan before relying on it. LiveReacting’s comparison.
6. OneStream Live A LiveReacting-authored comparison reports a 24/7 add-on for YouTube. The comparison says the add-on is limited to 30 days. Confirm whether that restriction and the add-on’s availability still apply. LiveReacting’s comparison.
7. Restream Useful for multistreaming and for scheduling or streaming prerecorded content as events. Its official material does not establish uninterrupted playlist looping. Treat scheduled prerecorded events as distinct from continuous 24/7 playout.
8. OBS Studio A local encoder can provide control over an ongoing stream when configured and maintained. The computer and network must remain available. The comparison sources characterize OBS as a free local option; multistreaming may require third-party plugins.
9. StreamYard Better aligned with browser-based live shows and guest production than an unattended clip loop. Upstream’s comparison characterizes it as a studio rather than an always-on looping channel. Check its current duration and plan limits if you need it for scheduled shows.

What Restream does—and what its pages do not establish

Restream’s official pricing page describes multistreaming to social channels, custom RTMP destinations, third-party streaming software or Restream Studio, and Upload & Stream for prerecorded content. It says the free plan can select two channels; Studio Full HD is available on Professional; and third-party software has no Restream resolution restriction, though destination platforms may impose their own. These are Restream’s statements, accessed October 3, 2026, and plan details may change. See Restream’s pricing page.

Restream’s YouTube integration page describes scheduling prerecorded video to YouTube and streaming prerecorded content, alongside features such as multistreaming and browser or software inputs. That establishes a route for scheduled or prerecorded events, not a continuous looping playlist. If you shortlist Restream, ask whether its current product and plan support your exact unattended run length and recovery needs.

When a local OBS setup makes sense

OBS is a reasonable DIY route if you want encoder control and can keep the machine, network, and stream supervised or reliably maintained. It is not an unattended cloud service: a power cut, operating-system restart, network outage, or encoder failure can interrupt playback. The comparison sources identify OBS as a free local option, but do not provide a verified current setup procedure or specific encoder values for this channel. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for supported settings rather than relying on guessed bitrate or keyframe values.

For any local configuration, test the actual clip playlist and stream before relying on it, monitor the YouTube live control room, and plan who will respond to a failure. If your goal is continuous availability without keeping local equipment online, compare a cloud playout service instead.

Choosing for a news channel

Choose cloud playout when continuity matters more than studio production

If the channel mainly rotates previously recorded clips, prioritize explicit looping, cloud operation, storage, and automatic recovery. A multistreaming or browser-studio feature set is secondary unless you also produce live shows. Confirm how a service handles a dropped YouTube connection and whether the stream resumes automatically before committing to an operating plan.

Choose event scheduling when clips are separate programs

If you publish a finite schedule—such as individual bulletins at set times—Restream’s documented prerecorded-event workflow may fit better than an always-on loop. Verify the event duration, start and end behavior, and any gaps between events with the provider.

Choose a local encoder when control justifies maintenance

A local setup avoids a recurring cloud-playout plan, but it transfers the continuity burden to your own power, computer, connection, software, and monitoring. It is a poor fit if no one can respond when the machine or network fails.

Check clip rights before building the schedule

For a news channel, track the source and permitted use of every video and audio segment, including licensed footage, music, and material supplied by contributors. This is an editorial and rights-clearance check, not a substitute for reviewing YouTube’s current policies and the terms attached to each clip.

Costs and operating trade-offs

Compare costs at the actual operating level you need: a continuous slot, storage for the clip library, and any required destination or quality tier. A free or low-cost event scheduler is not necessarily a cheaper substitute for a dedicated 24/7 service if it cannot loop continuously. Conversely, a cloud service may cost more than local software while removing the need to keep a computer and home connection running. The available comparison evidence does not support a like-for-like current price table for the other named services, so check their live plan pages before choosing.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing at home has to stay on. Every slot supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers; it also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube playback of uploaded videos, not camera streaming or other platforms.
