Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchYes, in principle—but a Raspberry Pi 5 is not a proven plug-and-play 24/7 streaming appliance. It can run an encoder workflow that loops prerecorded video to YouTube Live, but the available Raspberry Pi evidence does not establish sustained all-day reliability for a particular setup. You will need to test the actual videos, output settings, cooling, and internet connection you plan to use.
What the Raspberry Pi 5 can—and cannot—tell you
Raspberry Pi’s documentation says the Pi 5 has “H.265 (HEVC) hardware decoding.” Decoding is not the same as encoding, so that specification does not establish a hardware H.264 encoder. A Raspberry Pi Ltd H.264 performance note, available as a search-indexed excerpt, reports that a single CPU core can encode 1080p30 in real time using software. The PDF itself was not available to verify, and that figure is not an all-day test of a looping YouTube stream. Raspberry Pi computer documentation
In practice, performance depends on whether your workflow has to re-encode the video, the source and output formats, resolution, frame rate, motion, audio, cooling, and the reliability of your upload connection. If your encoder can send the files without unnecessary transcoding, that may reduce work for the Pi, but you still need to test the complete stream. No specific memory size, power supply, cooling arrangement, software command, or continuous operating duration is established as sufficient.
Set up the YouTube Live side first
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create a stream in YouTube Studio. YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming. Create the stream in Studio, then copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Choose a looping encoder workflow. Use software that can repeatedly play the local video files and continuously send an RTMP or RTMPS stream. Exact software steps depend on the encoder you choose; the available evidence does not establish a Pi-specific command or configuration as a guaranteed solution.
- Pick an output profile and verify it. Match the profile to both the material and the connection. YouTube’s published H.264 reference figures are:
| Output profile | YouTube-published H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps recommended; 2 Mbps minimum |
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps recommended; 0.4 Mbps minimum |
These are YouTube Help’s published settings, not a promise that your internet connection can sustain them. The 480p recommended figure is higher than the listed 720p figure; use YouTube’s current guidance rather than assuming bitrate always falls with resolution. YouTube recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), an upload-speed test, and selecting stream quality to suit the connection. It supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transmission. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

- Run a representative test before relying on it. Test the same files, transitions, audio, resolution, and frame rate you intend to use. Monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages as well as the Pi’s CPU load and temperature, dropped frames, and network stability. YouTube advises testing and monitoring; a short successful test does not prove the system will remain stable all day.
Make sure the children’s content is classified correctly
Set the audience designation accurately in YouTube Studio, regardless of where you live. YouTube warns creators not to rely on automated systems to choose whether a video is Made for Kids. The designation is an audience classification, not a label to select simply because children might watch.
For a Made for Kids live stream, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, comments on stream archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications. Personalized ads are also disabled, although contextual ads may appear. See YouTube’s Made for Kids guidance.

Copyright permission and monetization are separate questions
Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. YouTube identifies an active copyright strike and a match to another copyrighted live broadcast as reasons live streaming may be restricted. A video being available online, or a copy being in your possession, does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.
Permission to use material does not guarantee that a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s Partner Program policy treats highly repetitive or reused content as a separate monetization issue; reused-content review is distinct from copyright permission. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and live-streaming restrictions related to copyright.

Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise that a single stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be saved. If keeping an archive matters, do not assume one uninterrupted all-day broadcast will produce one; plan around the documented limit and confirm current behavior in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not accept the broadcast: confirm the correct server URL and stream key are entered, the key belongs to the intended stream, live streaming is enabled for the channel, and there are no current restrictions.
- Stream health reports instability or viewers see buffering: test upload speed, compare the connection with the selected bitrate, and try a lower output profile. Use YouTube’s recommended bitrate as a reference, not as proof of available bandwidth.
- The Pi drops frames or becomes unstable: check CPU load and temperature during the actual looping workload. Reduce resolution or frame rate, or avoid unnecessary transcoding if the chosen workflow allows it. Re-test for a prolonged period; the cited 1080p30 software-encoding result does not guarantee your particular setup.
- The broadcast stops after a YouTube interruption: check whether the encoder or software can reconnect and restart its output, then observe the recovery in a controlled test. Do not assume automatic recovery unless your chosen setup demonstrates it.
- The stream is not archived as expected: check its duration against YouTube’s under-12-hour archive guidance and inspect the stream in Studio.
- Chat, comments, or reminders are unavailable: check whether the stream is designated Made for Kids; YouTube disables these features for such live streams.
Ways to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running
The right approach depends on how much local control you want, whether you can rely on the Pi and home uplink continuously, how much monitoring and recovery you can manage, and whether you need an archive of an uninterrupted broadcast.
