To restart a continuous children’s YouTube livestream as a distinct broadcast, end the current stream, create a new one in YouTube Studio, and use Reuse settings if you want to carry over its setup. Then check the new broadcast’s audience, title, privacy, schedule, and automation before starting the encoder. Reusing settings creates a new broadcast; it does not turn the existing stream into a fresh one.
End the current broadcast and create a new one
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Manage tab to find the current or previous stream.
- When the current segment is finished, end it. For an encoder stream, stop sending content from the encoder; for a scheduled stream, click End Stream and stop the encoder feed. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Create a new stream or schedule one. To copy the earlier setup, select the prior stream and choose Reuse settings. YouTube says this copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key; you can edit them after the new stream is created. See Manage live stream settings.
- Review the new stream’s title, description, audience designation, visibility, schedule, and automation choices. Do not assume copied details are right for the next broadcast.
- Connect the encoder with the stream URL and key for the new broadcast, then start sending the video. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview in Live Control Room and select Go live when it is ready.
- Check that the new watch page is accessible, then monitor the audio and video quality. YouTube recommends checking the preview before going live and monitoring stream quality; its live streaming tips recommend setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. Those are preparation recommendations, not requirements for creating a new broadcast.
Reuse settings or start from scratch?

Check the stream key and automatic start/stop behavior
A stream key and server address tell the encoder where to send its feed and allow YouTube to accept it. Reusing settings copies the previous key, and YouTube also supports custom stream keys when you intentionally want to use the same key. Confirm that the encoder is using the key associated with the new broadcast.
Auto-start and auto-stop allow a creator to start or stop streaming from the encoder. These choices copy with Reuse settings, so check that their behavior suits the transition between broadcasts. If a key is compromised, reset it and update the encoder with the replacement.

Set the children’s audience and participant safeguards correctly
Content intended for children
Choose the audience designation that accurately describes the content. For a stream designated made for kids, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, Super Chat, comments on live archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications for upcoming streams. Personalized ads are disabled for made-for-kids livestreams and Premieres, though contextual ads may still appear. Do not plan the broadcast around features that the designation disables. Under-16s appearing as participants
Audience designation and participant safety are separate considerations. YouTube says under-16s participating from an adult-owned account must have the adult visibly present. Livestreams featuring under-16s without a visibly accompanying adult may be removed or have live chat disabled. YouTube also recommends having an adult nearby or aware and using safe chat moderation for minors’ livestreams. Review its streaming tips.
Why split a continuous schedule into separate broadcasts?
A new broadcast gives the next segment its own stream object and watch page. That can be useful when you want distinct broadcasts or archives instead of treating the schedule as one continuing stream. YouTube says all streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end; that statement applies to streams under 12 hours and should not be read as a guarantee about longer streams. Viewers can pause, rewind, and resume a live stream when DVR is available, but YouTube warns that DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers cannot seek back to before a stream began. If DVR is disabled, they cannot seek back during the live broadcast, although a recording may still be available after it ends. Troubleshooting a restart
- The old watch page is still live: End the current broadcast and stop the encoder feed before starting the next stream.
- The encoder is sending to the wrong broadcast: Check that it is using the stream URL and key associated with the new broadcast. Reusing settings copies the prior key, but the encoder still needs to send to the intended stream.
- The scheduled stream has not appeared live: Wait for the encoder preview in Live Control Room, check the feed, and select Go live for the scheduled broadcast.
- The next stream starts or stops unexpectedly: Review the copied auto-start and auto-stop settings and adjust them for the desired handoff.
- Viewers cannot chat or receive reminders: Check the made-for-kids audience designation; YouTube disables those features for streams designated made for kids.
- The archive or rewind is unavailable: Check stream length and DVR settings. Automatic archiving is stated for streams under 12 hours, while DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours.
