You can schedule separate weekday and weekend broadcasts in YouTube Studio, but the schedule does not automatically switch a live stream between YouTube playlists. A scheduled broadcast creates the event and watch page; a separate encoder or playout workflow must send the cartoon program. For a few recurring slots, schedule each event and prepare the matching lineup before it starts. For unattended switching, use a playout system that explicitly supports timed media schedules and YouTube Live output.
What YouTube scheduling does—and does not do
A YouTube playlist is a collection of uploaded videos. A YouTube Live broadcast is an event that receives a live program feed. Scheduling a broadcast in Studio does not make the videos in a playlist play as that feed, and the reviewed YouTube documentation does not describe a native weekday/weekend playlist-switching setting. You still need an encoder or production workflow to send the selected cartoon lineup to YouTube.
YouTube Studio can schedule events, create their watch pages, and let viewers opt into reminders when those features are available for the selected audience setting. You can reuse settings from a previous event, but that reuses event details; it does not create a media-playout schedule.
Before scheduling: confirm access, media, and rights
Enable live streaming
Confirm that live streaming is enabled for your channel. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this check until the event day.

Confirm rights to every cartoon
Use episodes only when you have the necessary rights for live streaming. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream, or the stream to be interrupted or terminated if the content remains. If you have licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Check your agreement for live-stream rights, territory, and duration.
Playlist titles and descriptions should accurately describe their videos and comply with YouTube Community Guidelines. A playlist is not a workaround for copyright or other platform policies.
Set the audience accurately
Cartoons are not automatically made for kids; the designation depends on the actual content and intended audience. Set the audience for each broadcast accurately. When a live stream is made for kids, YouTube disables or restricts features including live chat and reminder notifications, and personalized ads are disabled. Do not promise viewers features that the chosen audience setting removes.
Schedule separate weekday and weekend broadcasts
- Open scheduling in Studio. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream.
- Create the weekday event. Set the date and start time for the weekday slot, then enter its title, description, privacy, and audience settings. State the time zone clearly in the description or other schedule information visible to viewers.
- Create the weekend event. Schedule a separate broadcast for the weekend slot with its own date and time and the corresponding accurate event details. Reuse prior event settings if useful, then check every field rather than assuming the weekday details are right.
- Prepare the matching program feed. In your encoder or production system, arrange the weekday cartoon lineup for the weekday event and the weekend lineup for the weekend event. Connect the encoder using the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Treat the stream key like a password and do not publish or share it.
- Check the event and feed together. Before the event, open its Live Control Room preview and verify the intended episodes, picture, and audio. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event.
- Manage the ending and archive. Decide how the encoder will stop the feed and whether the resulting archive should remain public. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams longer than that may not be archived.
Choose how the cartoon lineup changes
Manual operation for a small schedule
If you have only a few weekly slots, schedule the broadcasts in Studio and select or prepare the correct lineup in your encoder or production system before each one. This approach keeps the event schedule and the media selection explicit, but someone must ensure the right feed is ready for each slot.

Unattended weekday/weekend switching
For automatic changes while nobody is operating the stream, evaluate a playout workflow or custom integration. Verify that it can schedule and change media playback in the required time zone, preserve playlist order, deliver the feed to YouTube Live, and recover appropriately from a machine or connection failure. A system that only schedules YouTube broadcasts is not necessarily a media scheduler.
The YouTube Live Streaming API can manage scheduled broadcasts and broadcast lifecycle settings. That fact alone does not establish that the API selects cartoon playlist items or plays a media playlist; a separate playout component would be needed unless the chosen system documents both capabilities. No specific third-party scheduler is established here, so check current vendor documentation and terms before relying on one.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube stream made from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera. Confirm that your intended weekday/weekend lineup fits its playlist workflow before choosing it; do not assume that a YouTube playlist itself creates a timed live schedule.
- Your computer and home internet connection do not have to stay on for the cloud stream to continue.
- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encoding or quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; it is one free day per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month.

Keep the audience informed
Publish the weekday and weekend start times with the time zone, and update viewers when the schedule changes. YouTube recommends a consistent, sustainable release schedule and communicating changes. Check the public event listings periodically so they match the times and lineup you actually intend to run.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting
- The scheduled event appears, but no cartoon plays: The event listing is not the program feed. Start and connect the encoder or playout workflow, then inspect the Live Control Room preview.
- The wrong lineup is on air: Check which media sequence the encoder or playout system selected. YouTube scheduling does not choose a playlist based on the day of the week.
- The stream key or connection fails: Verify the stream URL and key against the event’s Live Control Room settings, and keep the key private. Confirm that the encoder is pointed at the intended event.
- A licensed episode triggers a disruption: Review the rights agreement and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel. YouTube says licensed content can still be interrupted when a channel is not allowlisted.
- Viewers cannot use chat or reminders: Check whether the stream is designated made for kids; YouTube restricts features including live chat and reminder notifications for those streams.
- The archive is missing: Check the stream duration. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, while longer streams may not be archived.
