A corrupted gameplay recording does not, by itself, mean your YouTube live stream or its replay is broken. These are separate things: the live feed comes from your encoder, a local recording is saved on your device, and YouTube may create an archive of the stream. First identify which one has a problem; then check for an independent copy before attempting file repairs.

First, identify what is actually damaged

“Replay stream” can mean an ongoing live feed, the archive viewers can watch after a stream, or the gameplay recording saved on your computer. YouTube’s live-stream guidance treats the encoder, live event and local archive as distinct parts of the workflow. A problem with one does not establish that the others have failed.

What you mean What to check
The stream is still live Check the YouTube watch-page preview and live status, then inspect the encoder’s outgoing audio and video.
The local gameplay recording will not play Keep the original file unchanged and look for a separate copy, such as a YouTube archive or another backup.
The stream has ended and you want its replay Check YouTube Studio’s Live tab and the event’s archive status.

If the stream is still live, check the outgoing feed separately

  1. Look at the YouTube watch page. Check whether the event is still live and whether its preview shows picture and sound.
  2. Inspect the encoder. Check its audio/video output and any error messages. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder errors and CPU load; if encoder output appears healthy, investigate the outbound internet connection.
  3. Do not treat the damaged local file as a repair target for the live feed. The available YouTube guidance does not say that restarting a stream, or any particular command, repairs a corrupted recording. Diagnose the live output and saved file as separate issues.
  4. Before shutting down, check both destinations. Confirm the event has stopped on YouTube and check the local recording. YouTube’s encoder guidance says to stop the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube.

If the event ended, look for YouTube’s archive

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The archive is worth checking, but it is not guaranteed for every event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live tab and check the event’s archive status; you can also check the event page on YouTube.

Do not confuse DVR rewind with the saved replay. DVR is a feature for viewers during a live stream. Turning DVR off does not prevent viewers from seeing an eventual recording, and DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours.

  • Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)

Preserve the damaged recording and search for another copy

  1. Do not overwrite the original. Make a copy before attempting any repair. This is prudent file-handling practice, not a repair procedure prescribed by YouTube.
  2. Record the details. Note the file extension, the encoder and application version, and the exact error or playback behavior. Those details matter when consulting documentation for the specific recording software or file format.
  3. Check independent copies first. Look for a YouTube archive, a separate local archive, or another backup. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup, but does not promise that any particular copy will be usable or that a damaged file can be reconstructed.
  4. Use only repair guidance for the actual format and error. The problem description does not identify a file format, encoder, error message or cause of corruption, and YouTube’s cited guidance does not provide a universal local-file repair method. Do not assume one command or tool will recover every recording.

Prevent the same problem on a future gameplay stream

  • Preview the stream before going live and monitor its quality during the event.
  • Record a local archive as a backup. YouTube Help recommends this, and its encoder tips advise verifying the integrity of local archive files and checking that the file size is growing.
  • Keep an eye on encoder errors, CPU load and the local archive. If the encoder output looks healthy but the live stream has trouble, check the outbound connection.
  • At the end, verify that the event has stopped on YouTube before stopping the encoder, then check the local recording.
  • If you need a saved copy for later, check archive status after the stream. YouTube’s automatic-archive guidance distinguishes streams shorter than 12 hours from those exceeding 12 hours, which may not be captured.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel playing uploaded gameplay videos in a loop, rather than to broadcast a live camera or repair an existing damaged file, StreamNeo can run that playback from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not repair corrupted files or go live from a camera.
