To repeat one prerecorded gaming video, add it to an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. To play several videos in order and repeat them, add them to an OBS VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Keep OBS sending the same feed to YouTube between clips; do not stop and restart the encoder at each boundary. Test the full sequence first: OBS documents looping, but does not guarantee gap-free transitions between separate files.
Choose the right playback setup

OBS documents both controls in its Media Sources guide. For the VLC Video source, OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Create or select the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the event. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. The key identifies the feed YouTube should accept; treat it as a credential and do not share it. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Set up playback in OBS. For one file, add a Media Source, select the video, and enable Loop. For a sequence, add a VLC Video source, add the files to its playlist in the desired order, and enable Loop Playlist. Install VLC if needed, matching its architecture to OBS.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room before making the event live. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance and checking audio and video. Its live streaming tips also recommend monitoring the stream and archive.
- Keep the encoder feed running as the videos change. Do not stop or restart OBS for each clip. YouTube’s documented workflow ends the stream when you stop sending encoder content or end it in the Control Room; the loop belongs in the playback source, not in repeated YouTube events.
- Test the entire loop with the actual files and scene. Confirm that the last item returns to the first, every clip has picture and sound, and the scene does not reveal a blank source during file changes.
How to reduce visible or audible gaps
A playlist setting makes files play in sequence; it is not a guarantee that different files will hand off without a blank frame or a moment of silence. Check the file boundaries in a complete rehearsal. If a clip contains a black tail or silent ending, trim or edit it. If your playback workflow allows it, a brief slate or transition may make a pause less jarring, but it does not make the underlying handoff frame-accurate.
For a single file, inspect its final frames and audio before relying on the loop. For a playlist, watch and listen through every transition, including the last-to-first return. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring the stream; OBS’s documentation describes the loop controls, not seamless transitions. YouTube settings that do—and do not—affect clip transitions
The stream URL and key connect OBS’s outgoing feed to the YouTube live stream. They do not create or manage a playlist; use OBS’s playback source for that. YouTube also documents Auto-start and Auto-stop for certain encoder workflows. Those options concern starting or stopping an event, not sequencing video files inside an ongoing broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
Live Redirect is another separate feature: it can send viewers to a Premiere after a live stream ends. YouTube says viewers may need to wait about two seconds for the watch page to reload after that handoff. It does not prevent gaps between videos within a live rerun.

Troubleshooting
- The video stops after one play: Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
- The playlist does not play: Confirm VLC is installed and that its 32- or 64-bit architecture matches OBS. Check that the intended files are present in the playlist and in the correct order.
- The YouTube event ends between clips: Keep OBS’s encoder output running. Do not stop streaming at each clip boundary or end the event in the Control Room.
- You see black frames or hear silence at a boundary: Review the source and media files at that exact point. Trim unwanted black or silent tails, adjust the playback arrangement, and test again. Loop controls alone do not certify a seamless transition between different files.
- The YouTube preview is missing or incorrect: Check that OBS is sending to the selected event with its matching stream URL and key, then inspect the Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video before going live.
YouTube notes that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; this is an archive rule, not a way to fix clip transitions. For longer sessions, consult YouTube’s encoder guidance. YouTube also discusses a backup encoder and stream quality checks in its streaming tips.
