You can reuse a YouTube gaming livestream’s settings, update its title and thumbnail in YouTube Studio, then schedule the rerun and organize its archive in a playlist. But a YouTube playlist is for organizing videos for viewers; YouTube’s documented workflow does not establish that a playlist automatically rotates old VODs into a live broadcast. For that, you need a separate way to deliver the recordings as a stream.
What a “rotating VOD playlist” does—and does not—mean
There are two separate jobs: arranging past broadcasts so viewers can find them, and playing recordings as the source of a live broadcast. YouTube recommends organizing livestream archives and highlight clips into playlists, but its cited guidance does not document an automatic playlist-to-live rotation feature. Treat those as distinct workflows rather than assuming that adding VODs to a playlist will make them play as a live stream.
- Viewer-facing playlist: groups public archives and highlights on your channel.
- Rerun livestream: a broadcast whose source is previously recorded gameplay. YouTube describes encoder streams as a common way to stream gameplay.
If you want an archive to remain discoverable after the broadcast, leave it public and add it to the relevant playlist. YouTube says livestream archives are uploaded automatically by default and recommends organizing archives and highlights into playlists. YouTube’s livestream promotion guidance covers archives and playlists.
Set up the gaming rerun in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, create a livestream or select a previous stream to reuse its settings. The available controls and labels can vary with Studio’s current interface.
- Reuse settings if useful, then review every field. Reusing settings copies metadata and settings from a previous stream, but YouTube says you can change them after creating the new stream. Update the title, description, thumbnail, and stream type for this specific rerun rather than leaving old-session details in place. See Manage live stream settings.
- Choose Gaming as the stream type when appropriate. Make sure the game and session in the metadata match the recording you are rerunning.
- Schedule it if you want advance promotion. Scheduling gives viewers a shareable watch page and supports reminders. YouTube describes encoders as a common option for streaming gameplay; its encoder setup guidance explains the scheduled-stream workflow.
- Use an accurate title and thumbnail. Identify the game and make clear that viewers are watching a replay or rerun. Use a consistent visual identity for the series, with the particular game, mode, or session easy to distinguish. The exact creative treatment is your choice; do not imply that previously recorded gameplay is happening live.
- After the broadcast, decide whether to publish the archive. If viewers should be able to watch it later, make the archive public and add it to your gaming playlist. Keep it private if it is not intended for public viewing.
Write a title that identifies the rerun
A useful repeatable pattern is [Game] Replay/Rerun — [Mode, Episode, or Session]. For example, “Skyforge Replay — Ranked Matches, Session 12” tells viewers the game, the replay status, and what distinguishes this installment. These are editorial examples, not required YouTube formats.

- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- Put the game name and replay context where viewers can see them quickly.
- Add a mode, episode number, or session label only when it genuinely distinguishes this broadcast.
- Avoid words such as “live now” or “new match” if they would make viewers think the gameplay itself is happening in real time.
- Keep recurring series titles consistent enough to recognize, while changing the session detail so separate reruns are not indistinguishable.
Tags are not a substitute for a clear title. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery except when they help with commonly misspelled content. Add them if they address a likely misspelling, but do not expect a large tag list to drive views. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance explains the role of tags.
Make the thumbnail recognizable and specific
Use a repeatable visual system across the rerun series—such as a consistent color treatment or placement for the series label—then make the specific game and session clear. The thumbnail should agree with the title: if the title says “Replay,” do not use wording or imagery that suggests a new, real-time match.

- 4K60 Capture: Record in cinematic quality with crisp detail and vivid colors
- HFR Support: Play and capture in 1440p120 or 1080p240
- HDR10 Support: Capture brilliant HDR content with tone mapping on Windows
- Cross-Platform Compatible: Works with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and more
- Analog Audio In: Capture in-game chat or commentary with 3.5mm input
YouTube’s reviewed guidance for this workflow does not establish exact thumbnail dimensions, file limits, or a dedicated sequence of thumbnail-editing steps for a scheduled gaming rerun. Check the current thumbnail controls and requirements in Studio before publishing rather than relying on an unverified numeric specification.
Organize archives without confusing them with the live source
Once an archive is public, add it to the appropriate playlist so viewers can browse past sessions or highlights. Scheduling and playlist organization solve different problems: scheduling creates a watch page and gives viewers a chance to set reminders; the playlist groups available videos after publication. Neither, by itself, is evidence of automatic rotation of old recordings into a live broadcast.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does scheduling a rerun make the old gameplay happen live?
No. Scheduling creates a livestream watch page for a planned broadcast; the gameplay may still be previously recorded.
Can I use a playlist as the source for an automatic YouTube live rerun?
YouTube’s cited help guidance supports playlists for organizing archives and highlights, but does not establish an automatic playlist-to-live rotation feature.
