Not for viewers who lack access. A private playlist is visible only to its owner, and private videos are limited to the owner and people the owner specifically selects. Viewers should not expect a public gaming rerun stream to make those videos accessible just because they were queued from a private playlist. YouTube’s general help pages do not establish whether every authenticated rerun tool can fetch and play a private playlist, so that technical behavior depends on the tool and account setup.
What private playlist visibility means for a public rerun
YouTube treats playlist privacy and video privacy as separate controls. A private playlist cannot be shared by URL or discovered through search, related videos, or recommendations. Private videos are likewise restricted to their owner and selected people. Putting a private video into a playlist does not make it available to the public; YouTube says private videos cannot be added to a public playlist. See YouTube’s playlist privacy guidance and video privacy guidance.
That answers the audience-access question, but not every tool’s playback behavior. The cited YouTube help pages do not say whether an authenticated rerun service acting as the playlist owner can retrieve and broadcast private videos. Do not assume it will work—or that successful playback makes the public broadcast authorized. Check the rerun tool’s current documentation for private-playlist support and the account permissions it requires.
Choose visibility based on who should watch
| Setting | Who can watch | Sharing and discovery |
|---|---|---|
| Private playlist or video | The owner; private videos may also be viewed by people specifically selected by the owner. | Private playlists cannot be shared by URL or found through YouTube discovery. Private videos do not appear in search. |
| Unlisted playlist or video | Anyone with the link; opening an unlisted video does not require a Google Account, according to YouTube’s video privacy guidance. | Link holders can watch and reshare. Unlisted content is generally not searchable or recommended as public content. |
| Public playlist or video | Anyone. | Can be shared and may appear in YouTube discovery surfaces. |
Visibility changes who can access content; it does not grant permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for having the necessary rights to use live content on Google services, including music licensing rights.

Set up a rerun without confusing access and permission
- Identify every video and its owner. Check whether the footage is yours, licensed for this use, or otherwise authorized. Include game footage, other creators’ videos, music, overlays, and any other material in the program.
- Choose playlist visibility for the intended audience. Keep it private only when access should remain restricted. Use unlisted when you want people with the link to be able to watch without making the playlist generally discoverable; use public when you intend open access and discovery. YouTube explains the playlist control in Change playlist privacy setting.
- Check each video’s own visibility. A public or unlisted playlist does not override a video set to private. For a viewer-accessible rerun, verify the videos themselves can be opened by the intended audience. YouTube’s video privacy settings describe these restrictions.
- Confirm the rerun tool’s behavior with your account. If it must read a private playlist, consult that tool’s documentation for authenticated access and test the exact playlist and account configuration before scheduling a public stream. YouTube’s general help guidance does not settle this implementation detail.
- Review the stream and any replay against YouTube rules. Livestreams must comply with YouTube’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines; streams that violate guidelines may be age-restricted or removed. YouTube also says Community Guidelines apply to private and unlisted content, and playlists can violate policy based on how their videos are combined. See live-streaming guidance, Community Guidelines strike basics, and the playlists policy.
Account for the stream archive
A livestream may be archived, and a channel may later post its replay or highlights as videos. YouTube says replays appear as videos on the channel; see Learn about live streams. Treat the original stream, archive, and any later highlights as platform content that must meet the applicable rights and policy requirements. Making a source video unlisted or private does not remove those obligations.
