You can broadcast recorded IIT foundation lessons as a YouTube live stream by sending them through an encoder connected to YouTube Studio. For a dependable schedule, use original or properly cleared lessons, test the stream before launch, monitor it, and divide the day into sessions shorter than 12 hours if you need YouTube replays. A computer-based encoder is the do-it-yourself route; a cloud service can keep the feed running without leaving a computer on.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- Recorded lessons arranged in a playback order, with rights cleared for every element: lecture footage, board writing, slides, music, graphics, and third-party clips.
- An encoder that can play the recordings and send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders.
- A reliable upload connection, a local recording or archive plan, and someone or something able to detect and respond to failures.
Being able to start an encoder feed does not mean YouTube has approved a particular continuous prerecorded format or that the channel will qualify for monetization. Follow YouTube’s live-stream rules and assess monetization separately.
Set up and start the stream
- Prepare the lesson playlist. Put recordings in the intended teaching order and test playback from beginning to end, including transitions. Use material created for the channel where possible; check rights before including anything made by someone else.
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go live, then create a stream or schedule one. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup workflow.
- Copy the connection details. Copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key as private: it authorizes an encoder to send content to your channel.
- Start the encoder feed. Load the prerecorded lessons in the encoder and begin sending the feed to YouTube. Before broadcasting publicly, use a private or unlisted test to check playback and the handoff between recordings.
- Check Live Control Room. Wait for the preview, confirm that both picture and sound are correct, and then start the broadcast in YouTube Studio.
- Verify the viewer experience. Open the live page on the devices your students are likely to use. Confirm that the title and description explain the lesson schedule and how to find the next session.
Plan sessions around YouTube’s replay limits
Do not rely on a single uninterrupted 24-hour stream to produce a replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local archive, and warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Build the schedule from separate sessions under 12 hours if an archive matters, and test the transition between sessions. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Keep a local recording as the dependable copy for recovery or later editing. YouTube’s DVR feature may let viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, but rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including those beyond 12 hours. Do not promise unlimited rewind; see YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Choose how to keep the feed running

For either approach, YouTube’s current guidance recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. This is platform guidance, not a measured guarantee of reliability. A network disruption can break a stream; read YouTube’s streaming tips.
Monitor the stream and prepare recovery
A continuous schedule needs an operating plan, not just a playlist. YouTube advises checking the preview, monitoring audio and video, maintaining bandwidth headroom, and checking local archive files. Assign someone to respond to a dropped feed, encoder crash, failed playback, silent audio, copyright notification, or session handoff. If you use a backup encoder, test its startup and takeover behavior before relying on it.

Common problems and fixes

| No preview in Live Control Room | The encoder has not connected, or the server URL or stream key is incorrect. | Check the URL and key copied from the scheduled stream, confirm the encoder is sending, and wait for the preview before starting the broadcast. |

Clear copyright and monetization checks
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match may cause a placeholder image, an interruption, or termination. A license does not necessarily prevent a match from affecting the stream: the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance before including music, clips, or other third-party material.
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams, and reused-content review applies to the channel as a whole. Permission to use material—or the absence of a copyright claim—does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. Make authorship and teaching clear: foreground the instructor’s original explanation, use meaningful educational presentation rather than simply rebroadcasting someone else’s content, and describe the channel accurately.
