1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo stream a recorded geography course around the clock on YouTube, put compatible lesson files in an FFmpeg concat playlist, send the resulting video to a YouTube encoder stream, and monitor both the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room. A playlist can play lessons in sequence, but it does not guarantee 24/7 availability: the computer or server, FFmpeg process, and internet connection must remain operational.
Check YouTube live-streaming eligibility first
Use a channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance also says a person must be at least 16 to livestream. First-time live-streaming access can take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable and verify access before preparing a launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide.

Prepare lesson files that FFmpeg can concatenate
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text playlist and processes the listed files in sequence as though their packets had been muxed together. This is not a general-purpose repair tool: lesson files need compatible stream layouts, codecs, and time bases. Mismatches can cause errors or artifacts at transitions. Inspect the files and test transitions before sending the playlist live. The FFmpeg Formats Documentation describes the format and constraints.
Create the playlist
Save a plain-text file named, for example, lessons.ffconcat alongside the lesson videos:
#1 Best Overall
- Build the foundations for geography literacy, easy to introduce K 2 students to geography skills
- Based on the national geography standards, 93 reproducible practice pages cover beginning map skills, landforms and bodies of water, and continents and oceans
- Features two full color fold out maps that support student's multiple skill levels
- Contains activities that easily fit into your curriculum
- Cumulative reviews at the end of each section help you gauge student's progress
ffconcat version 1.0
file lesson-01.mp4
file lesson-02.mp4
file lesson-03.mp4
The marker must be the first line, with no leading spaces or byte-order mark, for automatic format recognition. Paths in this example are relative to the playlist file. By default, the concat demuxer’s safe option is 1 and rejects unsafe paths. Keep paths simple and trusted; use safe=0 only when you have generated or reviewed the playlist and its entries yourself.
Check compatibility and transitions
- Confirm each lesson has the intended video and audio streams and that stream layouts, codecs, and time bases match.
- Play the playlist locally and listen and watch across every transition, including the final-to-first transition if you intend to loop it.
- Incorrect duration information can cause artifacts. If files differ materially in format or stream structure, normalize or re-encode them to a consistent format before relying on concat.
Concat reads compatible packet streams in sequence; it does not make arbitrary recordings compatible. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation for detailed rules.

Create a YouTube encoder stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream, then copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not place a real key in a script you share, publish, or commit to a public repository.
- Configure FFmpeg to send the output to the YouTube ingest URL using the protocol supported by your encoder setup. YouTube generally recommends RTMPS. Check YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance for the applicable connection details.
- For a scheduled broadcast, check the incoming preview in Live Control Room and use its controls to start the broadcast as directed by YouTube. An encoder connection by itself is not a substitute for confirming the stream is live in the control room.
Choose output settings and test before going live
Use a stable upload connection and choose resolution and bitrate appropriate to that connection and the source material. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. It recommends RTMPS for encoder streaming. These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular network or host can sustain a broadcast. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings for supported resolutions and bitrate guidance.
- Run a private or otherwise non-public test first, using audio and motion similar to the planned course broadcast.
- Check the local output and YouTube’s incoming preview for picture, sound, synchronization, and transitions.
- Monitor stream health in Live Control Room during the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming a successful encoder launch will remain healthy.
Make the playlist repeat and account for failures
A concat playlist specifies sequential playback; it does not itself make a local FFmpeg process loop forever or restart after a crash. One basic looping pattern is to repeat the input playlist indefinitely with FFmpeg’s input loop option:
Rank #3
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 1 -i lessons.ffconcat
-c:v copy -c:a copy -f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
This example assumes the source files have compatible streams and codecs, the copied streams are accepted by the selected YouTube ingest configuration, and the destination URL is replaced locally with the server URL and secret stream key supplied by YouTube. It is not universal: mismatched recordings, unsupported output details, or a different ingest setup may require stream mapping or transcoding rather than -c:v copy -c:a copy. Never use the example with a real key in public documentation.
For genuine continuous availability, separately plan how the host and connection will recover. A restart, FFmpeg failure, power loss, or internet outage can interrupt a local stream. The cited YouTube and FFmpeg documentation does not certify a local deployment’s uptime or prescribe a process supervisor; select and test recovery arrangements for your operating system and hosting environment. Keep source lesson files available so you can reconnect or rebuild the playlist.

Plan archives for a broadcast longer than 12 hours
YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, so do not rely on YouTube retaining the entire course as one complete archive. Keep the original lesson files and decide in advance whether to divide the broadcast into shorter sessions or record the output separately if a complete archive is required. See the YouTube encoder guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a local FFmpeg host and connection is not what you want to manage, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video stream running on YouTube from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams uploaded video at the quality it was made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start a StreamNeo free day.

Can I use an FFmpeg playlist to stream a recorded course to YouTube Live?
Yes. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can read compatible lesson files sequentially and send the output to a YouTube encoder stream. The files must meet concat’s stream-compatibility constraints.
Does an FFmpeg playlist keep a YouTube stream online if my computer disconnects?
No. A playlist controls playback, not the availability of the host, FFmpeg process, or network connection.
Will YouTube save a complete archive of a 24/7 stream?
YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, so a 24/7 broadcast needs a separate archive plan.
